About the adventure

Welcome to Godsbreath, friend! You've come for the Awakening Festival, where you'll meet all kinds of fine folk and hear songs about our history. It'd be a grand old time...if a crew of farmers with blood-red eyes didn't start killing people left and right. Now it's up to you to cross the Rattle, the most dangerous farmland in the region, and carve out the root of this corruption before it spreads. Beware: the truth is hard to stomach, and not every hand that reaches out is friendly. Do you have what it takes to save us from our bloody history? Join us for a two-session* horror story inspired by the American South, where the ghosts of our pasts never leave us for long. Will you defeat the darkness threatening Godsbreath, or will you lose your hands and your mind to the evil that threatens to bleed this world dry of all things good? _____________________________________________________________________ *Two-session approximation is in addition to session zero

About me

I have been in love with telling stories for as long as I can remember. I'm an avid devourer of books, actual-play content, and home games with fellow GMs, and I blend all those experiences together to create vivid, immersive worlds in which you can splash around. My worlds and games are designed to elevate the stories of the characters who enter them, whether through RP or personal interaction with lore. I am a firm believer that everyone's story matters, and I am excited to provide space for you to explore yours.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place in Session 0. At that time, we'll establish whose backstories are entwined, whose are independent, and how your characters know each other. For those who want their character to be a local, we'll also establish enough lore to tie you to the world and make it feel like your own. In a story this condensed, the more personal your ties to the plot and the people, the more you'll get out of the horror aspect. Since this adventure was designed around a majority Black-and-POC-populated setting, we will do our best to build our characters respectfully. Players who identify with these labels are welcome to give suggestions and insight if they wish, though it is not required.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Playing at my table is simple! You'll need a microphone and a webcam, a free account on D&D Beyond, and Discord. You can find campaign links for D&D Beyond and Owlbear Rodeo on my Discord server. You will not need any kind of account to play on Owlbear. Webcams are required. You may create your own character token using 2MinuteTabletop's custom token editor or I will create one for you. A link to that resource will be provided.

What SG Winter brings to the table

⟢ No dice? No problem! My Discord server has a digital dice tray brimming with RNG dice, and you are always welcome to use the virtual dice on D&D Beyond or Owlbear Rodeo. ⟢ I have pre-generated character sheets ready for use—all you have to do is ask! ⟢ All sessions include ambient music streamed through Discord. ⟢ All my owned content on D&D Beyond is available to characters built using our campaign link. The library is too extensive to list here.

Homebrew rules

⟢ Potions take a bonus action to drink and an action to administer to another character. ⟢ Flanking is allowed. ⟢ Guns follow Matt Mercer’s firearm rules.

Safety

How SG Winter creates a safe table

Safety Tools ⟢ Session 0: We'll have a Session 0 for character creation, discussion of lines and veils, and collaboration on the overall tone of the story. Will this be a gritty battle for survival or a lighthearted romp through the multiverse? The party will decide that here. ⟢ Lines and Veils: We'll discuss these in our Session 0. If you're uncomfortable sharing yours in a group setting, you may DM them to me on StartPlaying and I'll incorporate them quietly. ⟢ Open Door: If you need to step out for a few minutes for a mental health break or to resolve a real-life issue, you are welcome to do so. ⟢ Breaks: We'll take a ten-minute break near the middle of every session.
