About the adventure
First Session is Free! - Background - In 2310, mankind has expanded into the further reaches of our solar system. You and your squad of hard-bitten mercenaries will do whatever it takes to carve your own little corner out of the universe, negotiating contracts and deploying to futuristic battlegrounds in your giant fighting machines. Pilots like you are one in a million, or so they say... - What's This Campaign About? - You'll be a mercenary in the battle-torn near-future of our solar system, using your highly-customisable battleframe (or mech) to take on contracts. These contracts could be anything: * Demolish a rival contractor's construction site under cover of darkness * Take down a guerilla warlord and his fleet of nuclear-powered mammoth tanks * Guard a naval flotilla while it carries out a lucrative--but risky--operation to skim volatiles from the surface of a sun You and your teammates will be also responsible for managing the well-being of your mercenary company; just like a LinkedIn post, you'll own your own work. That means choosing your missions, brokering deals with the industrial sector, and even cozying up to local politicians to shore up your company's reputation. That's right, this is a LANCER campaign that sometimes features actual out-of-mech gameplay. Diplomacy and mercantile savvy will be essential to making sure your company thrives in the harsh realities of this futuristic interpretation of our solar system. The whole solar system is yours for the taking in SOL DOMINION. - How is this Sandbox campaign being run? - When you're in your mech fighting, you'll use your LANCER statistics (both Pilot and Mech). For any kind of roleplaying, you'll use your Genesys character's statistics and we'll use the Genesys storytelling engine. It's a sandbox experience, so while outside events and NPCs will definitely influence the game universe, you'll pick and choose contracts and objectives you want to try to achieve as a group. Sometimes characters will offer you missions; other times you'll be expected to go out and explore to find them. You'll be mercenaries in debt to a warlord on Titan when the campaign's narrative begins. You'll complete a series of missions to work your way out of debt (or perhaps lead a rebellion and seize the warlord's operation...who knows?)

About me
I have been a GM ever since receiving a D&D3.5E starter set when I was a young lad. I was the kid who tried to start a D&D club in primary school, and I've been playing tabletop games of all kinds, from board games to wargames, ever since. I'm a kind and funny guy by all reports, and I've always been warmly received by my players (once, a player frothed at the mouth from excitement during a tense combat encounter at the end of a campaign!) I am also a designer, and I have been tweaking rules and making homebrew ever since I started GMing. I have been told before that I should write my adventures down and try to publish them, and honestly one day I do hope to become a published author of adventures and rulebooks (rather than just an informal one), and I'm even working on my own skirmish wargame, Flintstrike. I can be shy when it comes to putting myself out there like that, though...but one day soon, I hope.

Creating your character
During Session Zero, we will all introduce ourselves and go over safety tools. Then we'll dive into using COMP/CON to create License Level 0 characters and mechs. Finally, we'll finish up by using the Genesys system to make your Pilots into characters that can influence the solar system OUTSIDE their mechs. All the rules you'll need to play and go through character creation will be provided. We are, in effect, playing 2 games in one. We will specifically use the Edge of the Empire books for character options (although the species options are limited to humans and droids).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For a general session, you'd prepare by showing up on time and having some vague recollection of the events of the previous session. You'll need to join my discord server, which is how I communicate with my players. You'll also find information on the discord that can help you get into character or learn about the setting. For session zero, you don't need to prepare anything beyond a general idea of a near-future sci-fi character, but a general understanding of the LANCER character creation process would be helpful. By the nature of LANCER, LL0 pilots can only pilot a 'generic' (awesome) mech called the Everest, so character creation for the mech side of things will be fast. Players should be prepared to join my GMing discord server where I provide all the useful information I can think of, as well as have the actual voice communications for the game. Foundry is the virtual tabletop I use, and it does not require players to have anything other than an internet browser and the link I provide to each game session. Be prepared to use Edge in the event that your chosen internet browser experiences technical difficulties with Foundry. I do expect my players to familiarise themselves at least in part with the fiction of the game universe and the basic mechanics of the game rules. If you've never played Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor or its sequel, Middle-earth: Shadow of War, I'd strongly recommend watching a playthrough of these games to get an idea of what life in Mordor is like.
What Roy brings to the table
First and foremost, I provide a living, breathing world that reacts and adapts to the players' decisions. There are no rails to follow; this is a sandbox where your actions matter and can change the fate of the universe. There are no throwaway or "silly" characters who exist just to serve a humorous bit; every character is brought up in the fiction of the game universe. Players that join my games can expect the rules as written to be followed, setting a clear baseline for how everyone's player characters can interact with their world. Over and above that baseline, they can expect me to try my best to fairly interpret the mechanics or consequences of any imaginative action they can think to attempt--just because there's no rules for swinging on a chandelier doesn't mean you can't try! I'll do my best to ensure my players have the best experience possible. I provide voices for all my characters and draw on my long gaming history to sample appropriate immersive background music for my games.
Homebrew rules
The LANCER system will be used wholesale, with the addition of a few new homebrew systems and weapons. The Edge of the Empire rules will be used as-is except the only allowed species are Human and Droid (representing NHPs). All the supplements are allowed.

How Roy creates a safe table
My players will receive links to safety tools, in particular a consent checklist. I will review these checklists before a session 0, and then discuss how the content in the game might relate to or be altered by the consent of the players. Furthermore, session 0 will begin with a general consent check for players to indicate anything they forgot to mention or wanted to ask other players. In the case of safety tools, I will encourage my players to message me privately (using a whisper in chat or a discord message) in order to indicate when they are uncomfortable. When this occurs, I will alert the group that I need to take a quick break to handle a consent check, then private message with the uncomfortable player (I will do this without asking anyone to leave the group call, so as not to single out anyone).
