About the adventure

Your old friend is getting married tomorrow. They have invited their closest friends to a remote mansion offering a one of a kind experience. You don't really know the other guests but that has never stopped you from showing up when called upon. One by one the guests have arrived, but its getting late and the guest of honor is nowhere to be found. Who are these other guests, and what is this "unique" experience offered at this estate? Unclear. All you know is your friend is not going to miss their wedding. I wrote this one shot for my own bachelor party but do not feel as if this one shot can only be played in that setting.

About me

I am a Los Angeles base board/video game lover who went to school to pursue video game development. I had played D&D, Pathfinder, and Savage World games in high school, and then tried the Fallout TTRPG system in college. I enjoyed all the experiences, and like most of us was disappointed when scheduling issues inevitably ended campaign after campaign, with none of my characters ever breaking a level 3 or 4. I started my venture into running Dungeons and Dragons during my bachelor party in 2022 where 6 friends and myself went up to a cabin to solve a Clue-like 1-shot I had prepared about a missing groom. Like most first time, DM's I overprepared. Just to have my players throw an Eversmoking bottle and avoid the final confrontation all together. At the time this kinda bummed me out but I have come to really love that ending. It made me really understand that my role as a DM wasn't railroading my players to my desire outcome, and it really about what the story can become. From there I started another campaign module with my best friend and we agreed that no matter what we were going to make it through the module. Now, 2 - 3 years later, our campaign has long veered away from the module, and we have added 5 other players. We are near the end of what I am considering act 2 of 3 and we seem all to still be full speed to the end. I currently run D&D 5e but am open to new systems.

Character creation

Creating your character

For a one shot like this, I think it is unnecessary for the party to create their characters together but am open to building the characters together if previous relationships would like to be established. This one shot has a "Who done it" component that could be enhanced if the players truly no nothing about one another before. I still utilize the 2014 rules. For character creation, players should feel free to use Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Monsters of the Multiverse when picking races, classes and subclasses.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I intend to run this in person so understanding of the core rules of Dungeons and Dragons would help us kick start the story. That being said if you are a new player, then I would ask that you have familiarity with your characters mechanics beforehand. I would ask that if you are familiar with monsters stats and behaviors, that you leave those expectations behind as my creatures usually stray from how their are written, at least a little.

What Freddy brings to the table

I will provide everything to run the session. Dice, pencils, erasers, markers. I own the 2014 players handbook and Tashas guide to everything, as well as digital books beyond those two.

Homebrew rules

All of the homebrew rules I currently would be subject to change depending on the party preferences but here are a few I have found success with and would like to introduce. If my players have ideas they would like to introduce, I am open to discussion. 1.Alternative Long Rest rules -Quick Rests: Take 10 min. -Short Rests: Take 6-8 hours -Long Rests: Take 3 days 2. Luck Points -Replace Inspiration. Instead give players tokens that give +1,+2,+3 towards rolls. 3.Alternative Initiative -Party selects 1 player to roll for the team, alternating each round until all players have rolled for the team. Dm rolls once for all of the monsters. -If PC wins, party selects two pcs to go first and then initiative order alternates betweens pc's and monsters.

Safety

How Freddy creates a safe table

I utilize Google Forms to survey my players throughout the campaign. By doing so, I gather feedback, ask for players to contribute to the campaign story, and check in session to session. During session zero, I would like to define easy to discuss Lines and Veils, leaving more personal topics to be defined privately, through the aforementioned google surveys. During the session I ask that everyone be respectful of the other players and their boundaries. If an issue were to occur, I would like it to be discussed with me directly so that I can discuss with players offline.
