About the adventure
In a setting where historical mythology meets fantasy, it will be up to you to save Ancient Greece and become the heroes of folklore. Explore ancient cities and connect to the Greek Pantheon, but be cautious of the monsters that lie in waiting. This game will take place during the tail end of the Age of Heroes, on starting in the Kingdom of Ithaca. Legends of heroes are fresh in the minds of the people of Greece. The Trojan War has just ended, and Greek forces are returning home. Despite other forces returning, the king is still missing, and so the island is run by Penelope the Queen of Ithaca. Your characters have been accused of a crime, and now stand punishment. Inspired by the success of Hercule’s labors, you must complete 10 labors in order to atone in the eyes of the Queen and the gods. The crime you’ve committed (or been falsely accused of) will be decided between you and the DM during session 0. Can you atone for your actions? And will your heroics eventually be legendary enough to carve your image into the night sky? If you’re a fan of Disney’s Hercules, Percy Jackson, Hades, or Greek Mythology as a whole, this is the game for you. Each player will be asked world building questions that will help shape the setting and guide our story. Players will provide a level 3 character. The longer this campaign continues, the higher that level will be. Any new players who sign up will work directly with the DM to discuss character creation, the setting, and what to expect. Are you ready to begin your Odyssey? Games are recorded for the safety of all those at the table and are deleted after 30 days.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! I’m Matthew, and I have been a professional DM for 4 years, hosting game nights at local game stores, weaving long term campaigns, and running Dungeons and Dragons events for kids. I began playing D&D in 2017, which soon turned into recording content and later working alongside creators such as Beholder to No One and Awfully Queer Heroes. In 2022, I became very active at my local game store where I began hosting public D&D nights every week. In 2023, I became involved in a Dungeons & Dragons for Kids program and I had the wonderful opportunity to be a Game Master for children ages 11-16. I’ve since been building my online game running skills with complex maps, unique tokens, and dynamic combat. I have found a new love for running games where I can meet new players and see fresh and veteran players come out of their shells and find camaraderie in a story told together. The best Game Master feeling is always when you present your players a difficult choice with two solutions, and they throw all your plans out the window and make a third choice you never thought of yourself. I love it every time.

Creating your character
Once you sign up for this game you will have access to the discord where we can discuss your character directly. Once you sign up for the game, I will reach out to you and we will discuss character creation before the game. If you are new, or would like to work together on character creation, I will be available one hour before the game starts. If you feel confident enough, you may arrive with a 3rd level character of your own. Players will have access to a D&D Beyond link that will allow them to easily build and store their characters. Players may use the point buy system or roll for stats. Players may use the 5e 2014 or 2024 rule set to create their characters. Any official 5e content is okay to pull from. If you are interested in playing something homebrew or unofficial, please message me directly. If this is the campaigns beginning, the first session will be a session 0. If you are joining and the campaign has already begun, I will meet with you one on one to discuss your character and the setting. If you are interested in playing a demigod or a descendant of a demigod, this will not affect your character mechanically. While some heroes like Hercules have great strength as demigods, your actions and heroics will set you apart from the average person none the less. You may also play a mortal character, as there are many heroes known for their heroics without a drop of divine blood in their veins. As for your race, any race from the PHB, MotM, or Eberron are on the table, however the lore of the race will be modified, and likely be a group of peoples that have been changed biologically by a god, divine being, or monster.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will receive a link to join the Discord where they can introduce themselves, share information about their character, and ask questions about the campaign. This is where the game will be played. Players may use physical dice or roll digitally if they wish. Please make sure you have a discord account, stable internet connection and working microphone. I will sometimes utilize Virtual Tabletops like Owlbear Rodeo, but these do not require an account. I will have my camera on, but cameras are not necessary.
What Matthew J Walsh brings to the table
Players will have access to the DnD Beyond campaign, with full charcter customization options. I utilize ambient music through discord, so players may choose to allow it to play or not for them. I utilize rule of cool, but that goes both ways. I love to surprise players and introduce unexpected twists and strange creatures. You can expect character voices, or at the very least, changes in cadence and inflection. Combat will be theatre of the mind. I often like to keep combat fluid and dynamic. If needed, I will utilize free to use websites like Owlbear Rodeo to use a map if absolutely necessary.
Homebrew rules
Attunement: Attunement to magic items that require it only takes 1 minute to attune, not a long rest. Potions: To drink a potion is a Bonus Action, and to feed to another is an action. Flanking: Flanking does not grant you advantage, but instead +2 to your attack. Nat 1’s at a distance: If you are firing a ranged weapon at an enemy who is in melee with an ally, and you roll a 1, you hit your ally.

How Matthew J Walsh creates a safe table
Every player will be sent a link to complete information about their character and to complete a Lines & Veils checklist. At any point during the game, players may feel free to utilize the Open Door method and request a break. Players may message me directly about anything at anytime. We will take a break half way through and check in on the players. If any subject at any point is too much, most content warnings below can be circumvented. Additionally, there are many Content Warnings due to the open nature of this campaign and often changing location and subjects. All content warnings are flexible, and may be subject to change based on the needs of the players.
