About the adventure
You will come and explore a historical setting where magic is real. The beginning of our story will be just after the US government has enacted a prohibition on a list of things they consider to be corrupting influences of the populace. Alcohol, jazz, tobacco, and worst of all MAGIC! You and your party will jump into the streets of New York city, where its citizens are trying to adjust to a new way of life. Magic users may be rare, but almost all of the five boroughs had citizens who used magic in one way or another. Now different factions are trying to take control of the situation. Prohibition agents are seeking to shut down all users of magic, while criminal elements known as "La Familia" are using people's love of booze and magic to gather as much money and power to themselves as possible. A beloved local legend, Mama Mab, has disappeared. You and your fellow players have come together, each for your own reason, to help find her. In that first job, you will begin to unravel a world with a dark evil at its center. Can you save the city that never sleeps?

About me
I had the joy of being introduced to Dungeons & Dragons at age 14 while working my first job as an assistant in a comic bookstore. What was already a dream job for a young fanatic of nerd-dom became even better when a few of the other employees invited me to join their 2nd Edition campaign. I’ve been a fan of tabletop gaming ever since. Over the years, I’ve spent much of my time running long-term (longest being 6 years) campaigns for different groups of friends. While I have the most experience with Dungeons & Dragons, I’ve also had the pleasure of playing and running games in Pathfinder, Starfinder, Blades in the Dark, MASKS, Vampire: The Masquerade, and most recently Daggerheart. As a Game Master, my focus is on fostering a welcoming environment for collaborative gameplay and storytelling, led by the players and guided by the roll of the dice. I enjoy using the rules as written as a foundation while treating them as tools to help build the framework of an engaging adventure. With a strong understanding of different rules systems, I aim to guide players as they discover their preferred playstyle and help the group create a memorable shared experience. I’m excited about the opportunity to meet new players, no matter their experience level or background, and to start new adventures with people from all over the globe.

Creating your character
All characters will be created on DnD Beyond using the 2024 base rules. All classes, subclasses, and species will be welcome. We will be rolling stats with the 4d6 take away the lowest method. Every character will start at level 1. All of the materials I have will be made available to you through DnD Beyond. Any outside materials will require review by the DM, but I am open to discussion. Once you have joined Discord, there will be a character creation page for you and your party to discuss builds and the composition of the party. I am very open to all back story ideas, but would ask they include: 1 - Two or Three people important to you in the city. They can be friends, family, or even rivals. 2 - a personal reason that you are joining the initial search for Mamma Mab ( money, relationship, fame, or whatever works for your character) 3 - A longer term goal for what your character is interested in? Do they want to become a crime lord? A politician? Or just take care of their borough?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Your first step should be to join our Discord server, then to join the campaign page on DnD Beyond. The links to both are below. https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/76767251544941527 https://discord.gg/nspmf36M
What Bippity18 brings to the table
My GM style focuses on collaborative storytelling and player-driven adventures. I use the rules as a strong foundation, but treat them as tools that support creativity and fun at the table. I enjoy helping players find their preferred playstyle while building a welcoming and engaging environment for both new and experienced gamers. My goal is always to create memorable stories together, guided by character choices and the roll of the dice. I will be running all combats through the DND Beyond VTT. I will make sure to add music and ambiance to tactical combat and puzzle solving. I do voices for a lot of major NPCs, but I don't do them very well. It's quite fun for me to try and make every NPC distinct. I am more often to stick to Rules as Written, but will always listen to my players if they want to change something. My goal as a Game Master is to create a table where every player feels welcome, respected, and comfortable participating in the story we create together. Tabletop roleplaying games are at their best when everyone feels safe to contribute, take creative risks, and enjoy the experience. Dungeons & Dragons was meant for everyone, and I strive to make sure my table reflects that spirit.
Homebrew rules
My homebrew rules are up for discussion at our session zero, but I do have a few I prefer. 1. Healing potions - You can take a healing potion as a bonus action and roll the total healed, or use your action to take it and get the maximum possible hit points. 2. Critical Failures - Rolling a 1 is always a failure. If it is in social situations I will describe a larger effect (the merchant will need to be bribed to get any of his goods) and in combat a consequence (a martial may drop their weapon, or a wizards spell may hit an ally) 3. Crunchy crit - A critical hit gives you max damage on the first set of dice, and then you get to roll damage as normal. For example, if you hit with a greataxe plus divine smite, you would get to roll the standard 1d12 + 2d8, then add your modifier, then the max possible from those dice (12+16).

How Bippity18 creates a safe table
My goal as a Game Master is to create a table where every player feels welcome, respected, and comfortable participating in the story we create together. Tabletop roleplaying games are at their best when everyone feels safe to contribute, take creative risks, and enjoy the experience. Dungeons & Dragons was meant for everyone, and I strive to make sure my table reflects that spirit. Before the campaign begins, players will receive a Lines and Veils document. This allows everyone to privately indicate topics they do not want to appear in the game at all (Lines) and topics that may exist but should fade to black or stay off-screen (Veils). This helps us establish shared boundaries before play begins. During the game, we will use the X / N / O safety system: X – Stop the current content immediately. N – Move past or change the current scene. O – Everything is okay; the scene can continue. Players can communicate these signals either through Discord chat or through in-game messaging, whichever feels easiest and most comfortable in the moment. No explanation is required when using these tools. We will also hold a Session Zero before the campaign begins. During this session we will review table expectations, rules of conduct, character creation guidelines, and any safety tools we plan to use. This is also a chance for players to ask questions and share preferences about tone, themes, and playstyle. Respect for fellow players is essential. Discrimination or harassment will not be tolerated, including behavior directed at another player based on gender, race, sexual orientation, identity, or background. Everyone deserves to feel welcome at the table. Additional practices I encourage to help keep the table comfortable and enjoyable include: Open communication: Players are always welcome to message me privately if something at the table makes them uncomfortable. Breaks when needed: Anyone may request a short pause or break during play. Collaborative storytelling: Player input is valued, and feedback is always welcome. Respecting spotlight time: Everyone deserves moments for their character to shine. After-session check-ins: I’m happy to hear thoughts after a session so we can continue improving the experience together. The goal is simple: a fun, respectful, and collaborative game where everyone can enjoy the adventure together.
