About the adventure
Your party are key members of a group of settlers about to set off into the unknown. The Gate will take you into the new lands, but exactly where it will deposit you is anyone's guess. Once there, you will have to regroup, find a good place to settle and try to survive, perhaps - in the fullness of time - even thrive. The landscape is not new to intelligent creatures though. The elves lived here, but suddenly left not long ago. No one knows where they went, or why. What did they leave behind? Who did they share this land with, and what are their plans now? This game will use my homebrew rules for Hexploration and Settlement building. Each PC will be in charge of a certain field of operations like Hunting, Security, Scouting etc. The game will be a mixture of adventuring as a party and making decisions for the settlement. You can expect random encounters that aren't nicely levelled, to make tough decisions and to work to keep your populace thriving. There is an overarching narrative, much of which will be informed by your character's background and ongoing choices. Each PC will have some time in the spotlight.

About me
Hi! I'm Chris from the UK. I am an educator who loves TTRPGs and see them as a good way to develop all sorts of skills in young (and not so young) people. Problem solving, understanding probabilities, developing empathy, learning to improvise, overcoming social anxiety and all sorts of other abilities come into play in every game - and you get to learn and develop them while having fun and telling great stories together. I started off back in the day (early 90s) with games like Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, but since my kids have been old enough, Dungeons and Dragons has become my main jam. I've G and DMed many sessions both online and around a table and my main obsession is that every character has their own story to tell as well as the plot of whatever game we're playing, whether it's a one shot or an extended campaign. I love playing published material with all the shiny resources available (I use Roll20, DNDBeyond and Syrinscape a lot) but I'm also very happy homebrewing, worldbuilding and running original scenarios and campaigns.

Creating your character
Once all the players are assembled, we can discuss party composition, so you can come with a concept but be prepared to work with the other players to create a group that covers all the bases. Anything from the 2024 PHB is fine, and I'm happy to discuss other options on a case-by-case basis. 4d6 drop the lowest for stats is preferred, but point buy or standard array are fine too.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need accounts on Discord, Roll20 and DNDBeyond, as well as having the Beyond20 browser extension installed.
What Chris brings to the table
I'm a fair DM with a flair for storytelling and description. I encourage players to be the same so that we all enjoy the emergent story. I like a good combat, but I also love to characterise NPCs, so expect a good amount of roleplay. I use syrinscape for ambience and music.
Homebrew rules
Hexploration rules and settlement building rules. I don't tend to use other homebrew mechanical rules, but I am open to suggestions. I use rule of cool for edge cases and good ideas.

Safety
How Chris creates a safe table
1. Monte Cook consent checklist, so I know how to plan around anyone's amber/red flags 2. Session 0 to cover table and conduct rules and expectations. 3. Open Door policy while playing 4. Aftercare - check in via discord if anything difficult arose in a session.
