About the adventure

Somewhere, in the lands in-between the living and the dead, you'll find Druskenvald. Too unusual to be fated; too particular to be chance - maybe just a long run of bad luck... You'll find yourselves dancing to a tuneless song underneath a crooked moon. It's your time to play your part in a story that started long before you've arrived, the right place - at the wrong time. uncover the mystery and secretive plot in a land of eternal night.

About me

I've been a player/GM for about 10 years now, and from my experience I've learned to adapt to nearly any circumstance thrown my way! I admit, I'm more into the story telling, I like to see my players succeed; so it sometimes hurts to see them fail(unless brought on by themselves!). I strongly believe in the player's choice, and if they aren't enjoying themselves I try to do what I can to keep everyone interested. I'm heavily influenced by the Grimdark of Warhammer 40k and touches of Andrej Sapkowski's Witcher, but that's typically under-minded by the works of Terry Pratchett; so many of the games I host are more akin to black comedies. I’ve got one complete curse of Strahd campaign under my belt, and am currently running a Wild beyond the Witchlight and Tales from the Yawning Portal campaigns; and will be running the Crooked Moon Campaign as soon as the book is made available!

Character creation

Creating your character

I will host a 'Session Zero' to finalize character creation. but I'm always happy to help any beginner or intermediate player who's got questions! I really don't have issue with player creation, all races and classes are welcomed. I try to play fair, and if needed I can run an NPC to fill in any gaps to compliment the party, so feel free to create and play anything you're interested in! Rolled stats are welcomed; or take the ones offered (18, 16, 16, 15, 13, 12) - lv 1. ASI + Feat, first lv Hp: max hit die. ((Yes, first level you'll get both an Ability score improvement AND a Feat. I'm not a fan of LV.1 games, but it's important for the game, so I'll make the exception of the started benefits here.))

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I play via Discord, audio and channel for image refrences, in addition to a dice bot (Avrae), I'll offer a link to D&D beyond for a character sheet. I do use Owlbear Rodeo as a Virtual Table Top, so I do recommend using a laptop or computer to play as opposed to a mobile phone or device - but never entirely necessary. If I can stress one thing, I highly encourage an in-game character Voice, it doesn't have to be perfect and I never expect a monologue ready to go for every situation, but I fully support anyone who takes the little extra effort.

What Faust brings to the table

I use Kenku FM for in-game ambiance, playing a curated playlist to add a little something extra. The Crooked Moon Campaign actually has it's own soundtrack created by 'The Blasting Company' known for doing the music for 'Over The Garden Wall'. It might sound silly, or outright insane; but I have a mindset that this game takes place in the American south or some kind of variation of it, so I guarantee there will be some awful southern affectation going on here for character voices. I just have to still figure out who sounds like who.

Homebrew rules

Pretty standard Homebrew rules apply with some modifications, ((borrowed from 'Critical Hits Revisited' by Benjamin Huffman)) a critical attack will automatically do max dice (2d8 will be 16+modifier), a second 20 will be rolled and that will correlate to an injury chart. but to the player's benefit, only for them - no monster or NPC is gonna behead someone because of lucky rolls.

Safety

How Faust creates a safe table

I try my best to make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable to the table. I'm far from confrontational and argumentative, but I cannot stress enough that I will intervene or ask a player to possibly leave if the entire group is not on the same page with something. I'm a fan of David Cronenburg, so I might go a little too hard into the body horror of things, but I'm not one to dwell too much on it - I do a lot of fade to black or yada yada when it comes to more intimate things, so if you're looking for a bit-of-nasty, gotta find that elsewhere. I'm not the best and ending a session so we'll likely have a vibe check at the end of a game, just to check on how things are going - I'd like to hear what the players liked, what I can improve on, or any kind of positive critique - but if you're not comfortable with that you're welcome to reach out via messages and we can discuss things in private.
