About the adventure

After an unfortunate traveling accident, you find yourself plunged into a rodent filled nightmare. The darkness surrounds you, there is an endless number of furry foes, and even rumors of the legendary WERERAT. Your only hope for safety is the “Drowned Rat” Tavern, but can these old wooden walls hold back the tides of vermin? This 5.5e one-shot has a focus on a fun, semi-dark, siege-style defense of a tavern. Survive the night, if you can. Slight roleplay with a climatic final battle. This one-shot has a lean towards combat, and is meant to allow the players creative forms of tactical defense. Differences in builds/styles, slight homebrew mechanics, and random dice-roll elements of the final combat can make for replay ability. Players of all skill ranges are welcome. The difficulty may vary depending on builds and experience but the possibility of character death is present. There is slight homebrew present in the form of defenses such as traps and barricades, as well as a general rebalancing of some enemies.

About me

Hello all! My name is Devin. I'm looking to provide a unique experience with a classic sense of adventure. D&D 5e homebrew one-shots. Good for beginners and experienced players. As a standard I like my sessions to have a challenging edge with the possibility of player death, but if you have a group that wants a more or less difficult experience, just let me know! In the end these are games, and we all want to have a good time. I like to include the opportunity for heavy roleplay (thematic voices, open dialogue, player agency) but also leave it as optional for the more combat focused group.

Character creation

Creating your character

D&D 5.5e. Players will be level 3. Equipment is either base starting equipment or purchase an equivalent amount of equipment to your starting gold. Custom backgrounds are okay, please just adhere to the standard skill, feat, proficiency, and ability score increases. I allow all 2014 subclasses HOWEVER, I do not currently own all D&Dbeyond content. If there is something missing necessary for your character, let me know and I will resolve it.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

After joining you will be provided a link to the discord server. Within the discord, in the "resources" section of the game you have joined, you will find the link for D&Dbeyond. Please join the one-shot and create your character in advance. Within "resources" is also the link to the "Watch2gether" site for shared audio (please do not pause the audio, as it pauses for everyone. It will be at full volume upon opening.)

What Devin brings to the table

I will provide fun voices, thematic ambient music, and a unique but classic gameplay experience. "Rules as Written" usually but of course, the "Rule of cool" always comes out when the moment warrants it.

Homebrew rules

Some enemies have been rebalanced. Locational defenses like caltrops and spikes have different behaviors and damages. I have made a barricade system for slowing enemies.
