About the adventure

Three centuries ago, a people gathered together on ships and prepared to cross the void between worlds. The land they came from was dying — a slow catastrophe of failing seasons and encroaching darkness that no wisdom could arrest and no faith could reverse. Leading them was King Cuthbert the Redeemer, a man chosen by the Pentad, their chosen gods, to lead them. Holding aloft the Sword of the Redeemer at the bow of the lead ship, he parted the veil between worlds, leading his people to safety. These exiles came to rest on the western peninsula of the land they now call Haven, on a seacoast that would become the site of the city now called Landing. They had survived the crossing. They had nowhere else to go. Cuthbert ruled, and ruled well, reigning for nearly thirty years. In that time, he built the structures that still define Haven: the nine Earldoms, the covenant with the Pentad, the knightly code, the processional road between Landing and Sanction, the castle Tintavel on the western bank of a tranquil lake. He was not a perfect king in the sense of never making mistakes; he was a perfect king in the sense that his errors were the kinds made by a man who cares more about what he is building than about his place in the building of it. Then, after 30 years on the throne, he abdicated, and passed into the wild east, carrying the sword that was a symbol of his kingdom with him on a final quest. Haven has endured, working over the centuries to produce a kingdom with deep roots. The Pentad still governs spiritual life. The Earls still govern the settled regions. The king governs both all without fear or favor. The current king is Harold II, known as the Young King — thirty years old, twelve years on the throne, with a civil war comprising the first ten of them. He was a questing knight before he was a king, and the common people remember it. He settled the rebellion by four of his nine Earls through attrition more than resolution. He has appointed the kingdom's first royal magician, a decision the church opposes with a precision and vigor it reserves for matters it considers dangerous. He is attempting, with the patience of a man who intends to be here in twenty years and wants those twenty years to have mattered, to build the Crown into something more than the name given to the largest armed faction in Haven. The Sword of the Redeemer is still in the east, said to be resting in the shrine where Cuthbert left it. Haven's knights have long undertaken the quest to recover it — the sacred weapon, the covenant's symbol, the one thing the founding story describes as unfinished. The Shrine in the East beckons forth both the brave and the foolhardy to join the line of knights who have attempted the Sword Quest, and many hold out hope that it should be recovered in the kingdom's hour of greatest need.

About me

I got a copy of the original D&D Rules Cyclopedia for my 12th birthday and I've been hooked ever since. In the more than 30 years between now and then I've run and played in hundreds of games across dozens of systems, and loved them all. At heart I am a storyteller and believe than any good story should be told together. I am very excited to finally bring my decades of experience to the virtual table top environment. Having played in multiple campaigns over the past few years I've been very excited to see how technology has had such a huge and positive impact on the world of gaming. In addition to my TTRPG chops I also bring years of professional technology experience to the table and aim to create a fully immersive environment for everyone to enjoy.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can create your character prior to the start of the campaign if you choose to do. We will be working through character creation as a group during Session 0 as well. The player's guide specific to this campaign contains specific options for character creations including racial paths, character class options, and custom traits. It is highly recommended that all players review the guide prior to Session 0. Player's Guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wCAsVqjQIbcM33hPLLSC728Fa5jeOzm6/view?usp=sharing You can use the 25 point buy method for your character's stats. Here's a handy tool to help with this: https://pittsburghpfs.com/resources/point-buy-calculator/ Any Pazio character options from the Pathfinder System Resource Document are valid. Please check with me before using any content from 3rd party publishers. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have a Discord, a Zoom, and a Roll20 account prior to Session 0. Friendly reminder that these are all free to use software, so don't believe anyone who tries to charge you for them.

What Nicky Perfect brings to the table

I'll set up a dedicated Discord server for the campaign as soon as two players join, and will provide an invite to the Roll20 campaign and a number of other materials there. Please reach out to me in the server or directly on Discord (@nicky_perfect) if you have any other questions prior to Session 0.

Homebrew rules

House rules that the group decides on or special rules specific to the campaign will be discussed in Session 0 and posted to the Discord prior to Session 1. Note specifically that any 3rd party Pathfinder content requires GM permission to use.

Safety

How Nicky Perfect creates a safe table

A document including agreed upon lines and veils along with a safety checklist will be sent to all players after Session 0, and before Session 1. Discussion of safety features will be a main focus of session 0. I will provide players with digital safety cards to use in the VTT environment. We will take a scheduled 10 minute break at the halfway mark of each session. Additional breaks can be provided if required and/or agreed upon as part of our campaign planning. I will also be checking in regularly with players outside of sessions via Discord for Stars and Wishes discussions, both individually and as a group.
