About the adventure
Your party has been summoned to Woodsong Tower, the home of renowned mage Penelope Lilliwine, at the request of her granddaughter. Your help is needed to face trouble within! ✨ Battle arcane oddities 🧩 Solve puzzles, riddles, & the mystery of the tower 🖉 Create the life story of the mage inside & share your own This short adventure contained in a wizard's tower has the tactical combat, arcane puzzles, and magical traps you might expect, but also leans heavily on the collaborative storytelling aspect of TTRPGs. Player's have the opportunity to improvise details of Penelope's life, telling her story as well as their own. We'll be using D&D5e (2014 ruleset) for this game. Appropriate for all levels of experience with Dungeons & Dragons and TTRPGs. Beginner's welcome!

About me
I was a part of playtesting for Draw Steel (find me in tiny print in the books!) and have been directing it since its release. It's currently my go-to TTRPG system! I was in grad school when some friends introduced me to Pathfinder. I couldn't believe there were mechanics for all the world building I used to do for fun. I've been hooked on TTRPGs since! I enjoy a wide variety of systems and love learning and teaching new games. I focus on fun and providing a collaborative storytelling and problem-solving experience.

Creating your character
You may choose a pre-generated character to play or create your own. If you create your own character, you should build a level 4 character using these D&D 5th edition (2014 ruleset) sourcebooks: * Player's Handbook * Xanathar's Guide to Everything * Tasha's Cauldron of Everything * Volo's Guide to Monsters * Elemental Evil Player's Companion Stats should be generated using the Standard Array or Point Buy. All characters may use the variant Custom Origin rule from TCoE. You may choose class equipment plus 50gp or purchase equipment with starting wealth plus 50gp. You also have one uncommon consumable magic item (let me know if you'd like a list of options!) At level 4, you may choose a feat or an ability score increase. Characters should be heroic! The type to respond for a request for help and put themselves in danger to save others. Character sheets should be shared with me at least 24 hours before the game begins, otherwise you will need to choose a pre-gen character. Optionally, you can also share the following: * Artwork for your character * One to three objects, places, or people that are important to your character * What led to your character taking up the adventuring life? * What is the primary goal your character has right now?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need to join a Discord server for our game to handle all pre- and post-game communication, as well as voice and video (cameras optional!) during the game. We'll use Owlbear Rodeo as our VTT - you do not need to create an account for this service, just follow a link I'll share in Discord and enter your name. You'll need to fill out a safety sheet to ensure we can avoid topics that you don't want to encounter in a roleplaying game! This game is PG-13 and will feature fantasy violence and memory erasure. Create a level 4 character and share it with me at least 24 hours before the first session. You can also select a pre-generated character. Be ready to improvise! This adventure includes opportunities to share details about your character and create details about the world!
What Emma brings to the table
I like to be my players' biggest cheerleader! I want to set up challenges that allow you to do really cool things and cheer you on when you pull it off (and I'll help with mechanical details as needed!) I always try to make sure that rules and stakes are clear; there are no "gotcha" moments in my games. We'll play primarily with theatre of the mind, then move to grid maps for tactical encounters. Foes, terrain, and dynamic environments are the obstacles to important objectives; you won't just slog through a bag of monster HP and you'll get to make decisions beyond which baddie to hit with your sword. I score each session with music and ambience to set the scene, but players have full control over volume and can choose to mute it entirely. Overall, I use minimal digital tools/automations. My virtual table is a bit like playing around a physical table (and you can roll your own physical dice if you prefer!)

How Emma creates a safe table
Before the game, you'll be able to anonymously share any lines, veils, and interests via a Google form. During the game, you can share an X card via Discord direct message or within our game channel. We'll have a scheduled break halfway through each session and players are encouraged to leave the table at any point as needed. After each game, we'll debrief to highlight awesome moments during the session and share what we'd like to see more or less of.
