The harsh truth of war is that those along its borders are often lost to its hatred. Those less fortunate still become trade for outside benefactors.

About the adventure

War has set Wildemount ablaze. As the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty clash headlong across the highlands of the Ashkeeper Peaks and Dunrock Mountains that separate their warring nations, it is not the nobles nor the military who lose the most, from this conflict but the people of this land. Settlements caught between battles suffer as enmity spills from the bluffs into the countryside. Along desolate roads and through scattered homesteads, whole lives are swallowed by fire, fear, and indoctrination. Yet death is not the only fate this war harbors. In the chaos left behind by roving armies and perilous skirmishes, scavengers remain long after the soldiers have marched on. They sift through the aftermath in search of the wounded, the isolated, and the forgotten—people whose disappearance will be buried beneath, if not counted among, a far greater toll. This is where your story begins. In the lawless shadow of Shadycreek Run, where criminal families rule through threat, bribe, and opportunity, you are no hero—not anymore, at least. You are the spoils of a land torn asunder. Captured, bound, and dragged into a place where your life amounts to little more than a purchase for the highest bidder, your fate now rests in the hands of monsters who wear the faces of men. To survive the worst of Exandria, you will need to be patient, endure, and when the moment is right... escape. For this place threatens to take more from you than the war ever did.

About me

G'day his, hers, theirs and all others inbetween welcome! Thank you for your time today. Name's Ikarus (He/Him). A homebrew advocate, TTRPG fanatic and loud mouth extrovert. I know what you are thinking, 27 seems a little young to be calling yourself a Veteran DM. But with over 10 years of experience dungeon mastering since the inception of 5th edition, I have a plethora of practice writing, running and playing the game. A destined forever DM from day dot. In our adventures I aim to create opportunities for: - Intense bouts of combat. - Dynamic integration towards character focused story beats. - Emotional roleplay between not only players but npcs. - Fun and creative options. - And most importantly a ton of laughter! I support all walks of life, cultures, communities, sexualities and beliefs. I strongly advocate that TTRPGS is a place for everyone! Discrimination, Intolerance and Bullying will not be tolerated! So please if you are willing to delve deep with me and adapt to my way of speech, grab your bag of holding and YIP YIP!

Character creation

Creating your character

This adventure offers a harsh entry into Wildemounts Greying Wildlands. Character creation will happen before Session 0 within our 1 on 1 interview, going over base concepts and builds, with your characters finals pieces coming together in the group Session 0. Assisted by your truly, we will go over the basic stats (an altered pointbuy system), class, equipment, ancestry and backstory breakdown before giving you back those reigns.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will start off by joining our community server, hosted on Discord, which we use to communicate. Whether it’s discussing game strategy, sharing character art, delving forbidden lore or just chatting between sessions, there’s a place for everything. Game dialogue takes place in the server’s voice channels, and while not required, using a webcam is encouraged to enhance the experience. For immersion, I’ll be streaming music and atmospheric sounds through the Discord server, which you may adjust accordingly. The game itself—complete with combat maps, handouts, and character sheets—is run through Roll20; providing a streamlined and interactive way to bring our adventure to life.

What Ikarus brings to the table

If you choose to join this game, I’ll be bringing a fully immersive experience to the table. You’ll receive original hand-drawn art of your PCs alongside a detailed height chart of the party. I write and create vivid descriptions of your worlds surroundings to bring it to life. NPCs will have distinct voices, and recaps are parramount reminders of where our journey has taken us. And that’s just the beginning! Beyond the core interests of the campaign frame, expect dynamic encounters, hidden lore, and surprises tailored to your characters’ choices. Your actions will shape the world, and the challenges ahead will test not just your combat skills but also your wit, creativity, and teamwork. This isn’t just a story you’ll play—it’s one you’ll help create.

Homebrew rules

I'm a huge advocate for third party material; as long as the content is tailored for the new edition and the campaign we are running, please don't be afraid to ask! With that being said there are three major changes/adjustments I implement in my campaign from the base 5.5e rules which include the following Mana instead of Spell Slots, The Dying Condition instead of Death Saves and a DX system for Resistances and Vulnerabilities which are more common place.

Safety

How Ikarus creates a safe table

My games are shaped by player comfort, ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone. To help tailor this experience, I’ll be conducting one-on-one interviews with each player before Session 0. This will give us a chance to see if this campaign is the right fit for you, as well as explore what themes, elements, and story beats you'd like to include or avoid. Any topics you’re uncomfortable with will be excluded. Alongside this interview each player will be given a Survey to fill out, that details there interests and playstyle. Finally, we’ll come together for that group Session 0, where everyone can get acquainted and set the tone for our adventure. We’ll openly discuss boundaries and playstyle preferences, making sure the campaign fits what you're looking for!
