About the adventure

This level 1-20 adventure is an epic tale that weaves in the backstories and destinies of each of the party members as they forge ahead towards world altering events. Comprised of equal parts RP and Combat, this campaign is perfect for people that enjoy deep role play and unique, challenging combat. Our story begins millennia after the Fuege, a memory shattering event that wiped all recorded history, culture, and written works from all corners of the prime material plane and beyond. Avanis is a diverse landscape of competing cultures and factions. To the far northeast, the human country known as the Colpanian Dominion operates a strict, disciplined society in their frosty mountains and flourishing wetlands within the Silver Valley. Beneath them to the south are the mysterious wood elves of Feynal, interspersed among the dense forests of the Wyld that are home to a wide variety of fey creatures. Further west, the prosperous democracy of Elenan in the center of the continent is home to a harmony of elves, humans, and half elves known as much for their wine as their diplomatic and perceptive prowess. Across the Copper Peaks is the oft-overlooked collection of halflings in what’s known as Grenendel among the Rolling Hills, a society built on a daily cycle of odd behaviors that baffle the few outsiders who come to sample their expert crafts and strong ales. To the north, the mystical Snow Elves of Aluvian, perched in their mountain homes, overlook the vast forests of Synhala where their high elf brethren try to maintain their own isolation behind a magical veil that has kept them safe for centuries. You however, are currently in the western most country of Iona, an empire of laws built on a strict caste system with humans controlling events from the top. The royals and the nobles look down from their wine-soaked halls and mansions, wastefully spending the gold acquired from the merchant class, the products crafted by the serf class, and the exploited the servant class. Here your story begins as you try to escape this land while uncovering its mysteries. Each of these areas and more are covered in the campaign as your personal background contributes to the world. Each player gets two story hooks in this session, one based on their backstory and character notes and another on their main class or subclass that will resolve slowly throughout the campaign. In addition, each class has a custom made subclass based on a country or faction in Avanis. Teleport around the battlefield as a Mistborn Assassin, or control the weather with a Climaturgy Wizard. Use ocular based powers as a Beholder Sorcerer or harness the frosty powers of the Circle of Winter Druid. I use a blend of 5e and 5.5 rules that favor player agency.

About me

Hi, my name is Marcel and I love telling stories. I'm married with two wonderful kids, and we all play table top games together. Tech guy by day, and advocate for a kinder world. I sing, practice a number of accents for fun and role play, cook, bake, tend bar, write, and build applications.

Character creation

Creating your character

I use DNDBeyond for character sheets, and Beyond20 extension to roll directly into Roll20. Stats are done with point buy and you get free feats at levels 4 and 8, as well as a backstory dependent feat at level 1. All standard 5e subclasses are approved, and most races are fine. Homebrew is welcome after a review period. I may ask for revisions for balance reasons or to make for a good story element that fits into the world. When you join my campaign you'll have access to all my DNDBeyond content including the custom races and subclasses based on the lore of Avanis. I will read your backstory and\or character notes and build a special session just for you that will adapt it into a one-shot adventure. Your choices will affect the main campaign. Homebrew subclasses of your own is encouraged, although I will need to review and approve for balance and lore reasons.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Roll20, Beyond20, and Discord are all required. Video camera is strongly encouraged.

What Marcel Marino brings to the table

I do a lot of different voices and accents to try to bring NPCs to life and tend to focus on story and character development with comedy a steady amount of combat mixed in as well as comedy elements.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew is encouraged as long as I can review and approve it ahead of time. I allow players to call for their own skill checks but often prompt them when appropriate. Persuasion and deception may be granted advantage or disadvantage based on what you say (or a straight roll by itself). Flanking rules apply
