About the adventure

You are no ordinary adventurer. You’re a legend of Woundwish, a plane built for bloodsport — where gods spectate, crowds scream, and champions are forged through fire, pain, and a hundred public executions. You’ve fought in the Ashen Ring, survived the crowd’s fickle whims, and made your name into a brand. But your freedom? That’s still locked behind a contract and a very small, very dangerous fine print clause. Then comes Smitty — a multiversal merchant of mysterious goods, an off-menu bard of outrageous talent, and the kind of man who can cook a griffon sausage and rewrite planar law in the same breath. He’s got a favor to ask: infiltrate the most exclusive underground auction in the known multiverse, hidden beneath Woundwish’s crust, and steal back the one thing he never meant to sell. If you do, he’ll buy your contracts and set you free. Permanently. The Great Equalizer is no ordinary marketplace — it’s a forbidden vault of divine transactions and unspeakable deals. Here, the truly powerful bid not in gold or gemstones, but in souls, stolen spells, legendary deeds, living beings, warlocks' pacts, sacred names, divine boons, and twisted items that belong to other timelines. It’s where gods trade favors, patrons gamble their followers, and archmages sell off their last 9th-level spell slot just to get a seat. You’ll face rival bidders with infinite resources and zero moral restraint — but they’ve never met gladiators like you. You were built for blood, not business… but Smitty thinks it’s time you learned to do both. This game is for players who love high-level play, cinematic combat, strange puzzles, and weird magical societies. I run safe, inclusive, and creative tables where your choices matter, your character gets the spotlight, and your ideas are never too weird. Whether you’re a seasoned tactician or just want to swing a sword at a soul auctioneer while quoting your merch catchphrase — you’ll find a seat at the table here.

About me

I'm currently a House DM at The Kobold Lounge, where I run 3 homebrew campaigns for adults, as well as an introductory game for kids and another for teens. I started with a weekly game at my house. Shortly after I learned to play, I had to move. To keep up with my new hobby, I found and joined ahome game that was posted online. It was a terrible experience. Nobody at the table was having fun except for the DM, who delighted in playing against his party. His players looked and sounded bored, almost miserable; I never went back. Instead, I decided to start my own game with one goal: to make sure everyone has fun! -- If money is an obstacle, please DM me. I care more about us having fun than making money. I put a lot of effort into becoming the DM I am today, I make immersive, creative content that literally over a hundred players have loved & that's why I'm here. I'd like to make a living doing this, but I care about my players & that's never going to change.--- I started running my first homebrew D&D campaign in 2016. Since then I've engaged in collaborative storytelling with a ton of amazing players. I enjoy being a Sandbox DM, and I love players with unique ideas they want to try. My tables, physical and virtual, are the place to try out that crazy character idea or homebrewed subclass. I want to DM on StartPlaying to reach a wide player base, bring people together to have a blast, and provide opportunities for players everywhere to participate in my games.

Character creation

Creating your character

Standard array or point buy for stats. I have a point buy system for items, you'll have access to the document after joining the game. Any official or partnered content is fine. Homebrew needs to be approved, I have to scrutinize level 20 character sheets a bit more so homebrew restrictions are slightly more strict than my usual games. I'll work with you to make your ideas come to life, even if we have to tweak a few things.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This is a high level game, so please know your character sheet & know it well. Keeping a good pace is important for all players to have a chance to shine. You'll need a free dndbeyond account and a discord account.

What DM Nug Gnome brings to the table

This is high-level, high-weirdness D&D set in the twisted underbelly of Woundwish — a place where gods spectate, patrons bargain, and the bold rewrite reality. I run fast-paced, immersive games built on creative freedom, cinematic moments, and deadly consequences. If you've ever wanted to cut a deal mid-fight, outbid a god for a living spell, or crash an auction with a flaming greatsword solo, you're in the right place. While I respect core 5e mechanics, I prioritize the Rule of Cool, meaning I’ll always reward smart, stylish, or dramatic moves — especially if they make the table go “holy shit.” Expect tactical combat with real stakes, clever social intrigue, strange puzzles, and a world that reacts to your brilliance and your recklessness in equal measure. You'll hear distinct character voices, from smirking fiendish sponsors to velvet-tongued auctioneers and rogue familiars with tragic backstories. Every NPC is designed to be memorable — whether they’re trying to kill you or cut you a deal. We play using D&D Beyond for streamlined mechanics and character sheets. I’ll bring the custom maps, hand-crafted homebrew items, and monster stat blocks tailored to this one-shot. All you need to bring is a Level 20 character and the willingness to play like it’s your character’s last day in the spotlight. --- 🧠 What I Ask from Players: Engaged Roleplaying: Dive into your character, make bold choices, and bounce off the other players and NPCs. This isn’t a script — it’s a shared story full of sharp turns and spotlight moments. Tactical Awareness: Combat is designed to challenge you. Expect layered encounters where teamwork, spell synergy, and creativity win fights. Embrace the Weird: This is Woundwish — everything’s a little off. If it feels bizarre, surreal, or too dramatic to work… it probably fits perfectly. Respect the Table: This is a safe, inclusive space. Bring your boldest ideas, but make sure everyone else gets the space to shine too.
