About the adventure

A published WOTC Adventure from 2018 run with 2024 rules! This is intended to be a lvl5-10 adventure over the course of 5-6 sessions. In my experience, this is always underestimated so I wouldn't be surprised if it goes closer to 10 depending on the size of the party and average length of sessions. We will start at level 5 and may level up during the adventure. Per the book: In centuries long past, a common scholar named Kwalish took an unlikely path to becoming one of the most powerful arcane inventors of all time, after his discovery of strange magic in the Barrier Peaks. His studies of an ancient, crashed planar craft overtook him, and he became lost to the ages. All that’s left of his legacy is a single example of his earliest work — the apparatus of Kwalish that is the only way most folk now know his name.

About me

I've been DMing games for almost a decade, primarily DND5e. I am happily a forever DM. I love doing homebrew games that allow me to dive into world building, particularly when I can build the world around the players at the table. I also love doing one-shots to provide opportunities for those that don't have the bandwidth for a long-term table commitment but still want to enjoy throwing dice! My games tend to be on the goofier side, but I also have yet to find a group that wants to veer into more serious territory. I'm really curious to veer out of my DND comfort zone and eventually try some other systems both as a player and GM! On my radar are Call of Cthulu, Dread, MOTW, Pathfinder, Shadowdark, and Daggerheart.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will need to create a character within the DNDBeyond campaign, and notify me in Discord when it is ready for review. Only basic starting equipment/armor/weapons allowed unless otherwise discussed and approved. We will only be going off of 2024 books, so doublecheck that your settings in the Home menu of the character builder match below! Settings: Homebrew: No Core Rules: Yes Expanded Rules: Yes 2014 Core/2014 Expanded/Legacy: No (can request exception via Discord) Partnered Content: No (can request exception via Discord) Dice Rolling: Yes Opt Class Feature: Yes Customize your origin: No (can request exception via Discord) Advancement: Milestone HP Type: Fixed Feats: Yes Multiclass Requirements: Yes Show Level-scaled Spells: Yes Encumbrance: No Encumbrance Ignore Coin Weight: Yes Ability/Modifier Display: personal preference! Ability Scores: Point Buy System We will have a brief housekeeping discussion at the start of the first session, think about what your character's motivation might be for seeking out this lost scientist.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The game will be run using Discord for the session itself and characters created through DNDBeyond. You will need to have accounts for both already created, and will receive invitations to a Discord Server and DNDBeyond campaign prior to the game. You will need to keep HP/spell slots/conditions updated as we play in DNDBeyond. If you have questions, please reach out in advance of the session! Camera encouraged but not required. I have found it be especially helpful if we have non-native English players at the table, but if this is a barrier for you please let me know in advance and we can discuss. As far dice go, I'll never tell someone they can't throw physical dice to play DND! There may be times I request a virtual roll in DNDBeyond, but typically physical dice are fine.

What Dungeon Burrito brings to the table

I'll bring years of DMing experience to the table! I do my best to provide music, imagery, NPC personality, and dynamic encounters. I'm typically a homebrew DM, so chances are I'll slip in my own spin on things even though this is a published adventure. You can also expect help troubleshooting, including a pre-game discord call if desired!

Safety

How Dungeon Burrito creates a safe table

I will ask each player to direct message me on Discord prior to start of the game any content boundaries or preferences. Prior to each session, I will identify any potentially triggering content. On video, I will instruct players to utilize putting their arms up in an X if they need to comment or clarify on something they are worried may veer into uncomfortable territory. I will ask if this is Red (hard boundary) or Yellow territory (concern and need to clarify before continuing/nuanced continuation). I will give them the option to state openly or if that is uncomfortable, take a brief group break so they can message me and we can discuss the next best step if we need to pivot directions. I also will not tolerate any shaming or huffing by other players when someone does speak up. Speaking up is important but can be very difficult. I do not tolerate anyone making that harder for another player.
