About the adventure

You and your fellow party members are apart of the Black Flags, a brave, seafaring, and treasure hunting crew of pirates led by Captain Abel Black. Your crew has embarked on a journey to the Decalli Archipelago, a group of islands on the crystal sea, all for one reason; treasure. Rumors of countless treasures, buried in each of the islands of the archipelago, have permeated the seas for a month. People have been whispering of gold, jewels, valuable items, and even magical artifacts. Your crew's mission is pretty simple: Traverse the islands and collect the treasure, all while dealing with the locals of the island and the navy of the crystal sea which might get in your way, not to mention the countless other pirates that have come for the same reason you have. While it may be difficult, in the end, the riches you gain will be worth it... hopefully. Truly, this campaign is exactly like it sounds, and is inspired by the likes of One Piece and Pirates of The Caribbean. Pirates traveling from island to island, looking for treasure. There will be a pretty decent mix of roleplay, combat, and exploration throughout the campaign, as well as a few wildcard situations for some interest.

About me

I have over 6 years of experience GM-ing, across multiple systems. I got into the tabletop world via D&D, and since then I've honed my craft as much as a can with systems like Blades In The Dark, CAIN, Vampire: The Masquerade, and more. I tend to go for more story driven games, where other themes like combat and exploration are used to add depth. Two of the things I value most in a game is freedom and the a good player backstory, one that I can interweave into the world itself.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be before the first session(preferably via d&d beyond). They will start at level 1, and stats will be decided by rolling 4d6, dropping the lowest, and allocating the stats wherever. They will be granted a free starting feat and one common magic item.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you will need is a discord account and a d&d beyond account, while the maps will be hosted via owlbear rodeo.

What KEY brings to the table

Due to the nature of pbp campaigns, I will be providing an incredibly rich world where any aspect of it can be interacted with, as well as detailed descriptions and dialogue. In addition, I offer interesting and tactical combat. I value creativity more than anything, and will be willing to allow something that isn't in the rules, with the caveat of an ability check and a consequence if you fail.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion will cost a bonus action. If you drink or administer a potion as an action, you will gain the maximum result instead of rolling die. On a critical hit, you will deal maximum damage and roll a second set of dice as additional damage. On a critical success you will gain advantage on certain rolls for a certain amount of time. In turn, on a critical failure you will suffer disadvantage on certain rolls for a certain amount of time.

How KEY creates a safe table

I will be hosting a session 0 and providing a RPG Consent Checklist, allowing for the players to inform me of what to exclude from the game. Xs, Ns, and Os, can be sent to me digitally. In addition, a day or two before each season I will send a list of the content that will be covered in the session.
