About the adventure

What appears as a normal mission to stop the Cult of the Dragon in the Elturgard Woods reveals a more sinister plot undertaken by the Cult of the Dead Three, and culminates in the fine city of Elturel being drawn into Hell. Do you have what it takes to restore Elturel to the material plane? And will you do it by becoming that which you fight, or by redeeming it? Baldur's Gate, Descent into Avernus, with some modifications to make it more of a sandbox of exploration throughout Avernus, with its paradoxical nature of remnants of paradise, war-torn battlefields, mad max vehicle combat, and devil-dealing. I'll be undertaking to vastly improve BG:DiA's notoriously linear path, allow significantly more exploration and side-questing, and provide variety to the landscape and situations you find yourselves in. This adventure will likely, due to that, also stretch to close to level 20 by campaigns end, depending upon how much you enjoy going off the beaten path. Pros: Amazing 3d animated battlemaps, scenes, and video introductions by Beneos Battlemaps. Seriously the best map creator around. Gritty, dangerous environments to push you to your limits. An awesome story of redemption or vengeance. Action packed opportunities, customizable mad-max vehicles, and devil's deals. Cons: Tight timeline, meaning limited opportunity for downtime related matters.

About me

Hey folks. If you’re reading this, then you’re probably considering me as your next dungeon master. I really appreciate your consideration, and I’ll try to make this worth your while. So, without further ado, I'm Timothy. And yes. Some people DO call me Tim. I’ve been playing D&D through the various editions for 25 years or so, and have been the DM for most of that. My greatest accomplishment is hooking my extended family, which has netted me the job of DMing for 7 family members on at least a weekly basis for the last few years. I’ve DMed for everyone from newcomers and eight year olds (both mentally and literally) all the way to crotchety old veterans. I spend far too much of my down time worrying about how I can make my game better. Frankly, I am obsessed with chasing that perfect session where everyone goes home and raves about it for years. I’m a bit of a rules encyclopedia, though I’m not afraid to admit I’m fallible. I’m willing to stretch things and say “yes, and...” in the name of a good story, and also willing to say “no, but...” to further that same goal. I encourage role play over roll play, but don't force people out of their comfort zones. I love to tie backgrounds and PC interests into the main storyline, or scrap the main storyline in favor of the pc’s. I believe that if you're paying for a DM, you're paying for a professional. To me, that means you can expect me to ACT professionally, even when we're having fun. You won't hear me cuss, gripe and complain about other players, and I'll generally treat you like the valuable customer you really are. If you’re looking for a DM who will customize the game to your tastes and truly care that you walk away satisfied week after week, I’m the guy you’re looking for.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at 1st level and will be created beforehand using D&D Beyond (I share ALL creation material with my players). I'm available to help with creation via Discord. Creation rules will be set according to our half-price Session 0 event, where house rules, materials, and more will be decided to ensure the experience you sign on for is the experience you get.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need is a Mic, discord and modern browser, everything else will be provided, from hosted VTT, to shared books on DND Beyond.

What Timothy brings to the table

I provide the virtual tabletop, all D&D Beyond material, and a howling good time week after week! I do my best with voice acting, use Syrinscape for ambient music, provide combat to the degree of difficulty players prefer, and run a RAW table with room for rule of cool. Joining my table from the start means choosing the experience you want to have, and then receiving it.

Homebrew rules

Most rules are followed as written. Minor houserules are discussed and approved by the players at our Session 0, to customize the game to your preferences.

Safety

How Timothy creates a safe table

Typical sessions will involve exploration, mystery solving, and fighting galore. Besieged in Hell by mid-levels, the characters will struggle to find a moments rest as they strive to solve the mystery of their situation and save Elturel. Our Session 0 is the place to set boundaries to ensure the safety of all present, and I am always on hand to step in and ensure the safety and enjoyment of ALL players at the table.
