About the adventure

Colossus of the Drylands is a campaign frame/setting originally created for the Daggerheart Game System, but we will be adapting it for Fabula Ultima. Sessions cycle between high-stakes Hunts and character-driven Interludes in a world with Wild West aesthetics and High Fantasy heroics. In this setting, the dusty frontier isn't just a place for outlaws; it's a fantastical region where industrial factories process the crystalline life-force of gods into batteries for magic and machinery. Session-to-Session Gameplay - Opening Prologue: The party will meet in an initial adventure designed around the player characters you create - The Hunt: Your posse uses the Travel and Journey rules to track colossi across canyons and deserts. You will perform Attribute Checks to navigate sandstorms or find a colossus's trail while searching the dungeons of the drylands for the resources needed to save the world. - Colossal Conflicts: Battles are larger than life. A colossus is treated as a multi-part adversary (e.g., a "Main Body", "Limbs", "Head", etc). Your party must find creative ways to scale the behemoth, and filling Clocks representing their ascent to strike at hidden weak points. - The Interlude Phase: Between hunts, you enter Interlude Scenes in outposts. Here, you work on Projects, forge Bonds with your posse and npcs, and manage your Inventory Points (IP) to restock things like dynamite and essentia cells or whatever else you might need to continue The Hunt. Blending Western and High Fantasy This adaptation merges the grit of the frontier with the wonder of JRPGs. - Classes and Tropes: High Fantasy classes are reflavored for the setting. - Magitech Science: The Wild West's technological boom is fueled by magitech. Sharpshooters use essentia-powered revolvers instead of traditional bows, and Wayfarers ride robotic mounts or giant scorpions instead of just horses. - The Narrative Heart: Following Fabula Ultima's Eight Pillars, the setting is built on the tragedy of Forgotten Gods and the greed of the essentia rush, forcing Ordinary People to accomplish Extraordinary Deeds.

About me

As somebody who is learning to teach history, I've spent a lot of time studying how to breathe life into stories. Stories can unite, inspire, and let us dream bigger, while also examining the realities and fantasies of the world around us. Eight years ago, I dove into my first campaign; since then, I’ve run years-long virtual campaigns, as well as hefty Westmarches servers, play-by-post campaigns, and countless one-shots across D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Shadowdark RPG, Index Card RPG, Nimble RPG, and more. I’ve spent years crafting worlds, maps, battles, characters, magic items, villains, and hard hitting climaxes contrasted by chaotic moments of laughter between. It has always been my ambition to bring a truly cinematic and immersive experience to Tabletop Roleplaying, and as such, I seek to design experiences unlike any other. My improv and theater background infuses each game with genuine roleplay depth, making sure every cliffhanger, boss fight, and emotional reveal is intended with heart. If you crave an unforgettable, premium TTRPG experience, welcome home! I seek to turn my passions for stories, friendships, and narrative experiences into a sustainable side gig where I can truly apply the skills that are strongest in me. I work hard, build robust systems to organize my my life and work, and strive to elevate tabletop roleplaying for us all!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will handle character creation together in the server. Come with 2-3 concepts as we build our characters together. We will have all Fabula Ultima Classes available, including the Atlas expansions

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have a discord account. That is all you need to play with us! You will just need to reach out to me to get a link to the discord server once you have joined.

What GM Ven brings to the table

We will play in an integrated discord server with daily responses to your posts (as well as off days). It will include a Fabula Ultima Play-By-Post Discord Bot called the AbyssalEngine which will allow us to create our characters in discord, and also roll checks by simply typing /roll might+dex. My GM style is to revolve the story around the player characters, and their choices.

Safety

How GM Ven creates a safe table

We will discuss Lines and Veils prior to the start of the game, and I will make a master list of all the things that are no-goes for players, and share that list in the discord. We will also periodically debrief to discuss things you liked and didn't like, but if you'd rather do that in private messages, that's totally an option too.
