About the adventure

This reimagined Stolen Lands campaign is rebuilt for the 2024 D&D ruleset, carrying your characters from level 1 to 20 in a true sandbox of exploration, politics, and consequence. Every decision shapes the fate of your realm, from its laws and borders to the enemies it creates. Run by a veteran DM with 43 years of experience, this is a player-driven epic where your choices don’t just change the story — they change the world. 👑 Enter the Stolen Lands. Build your realm. Decide its fate. The wilds are unclaimed. The crown is unworn. And the Stolen Lands are yours to take. This is a fully reimagined Stolen Lands / Kingmaker-style campaign, rebuilt from the ground up for the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. Beginning at 1st level and rising all the way to 20th, this long-form epic follows your party as you explore an untamed frontier, overthrow bandit lords and monsters, and found a kingdom of your own. Every decision matters. The choices you make don’t just affect the story — they shape the laws, borders, and future of a living nation. 🏰 Campaign Premise The Stolen Lands have long been ruled by chaos: ruthless bandits, ancient beasts, and lurking supernatural powers. Your party has been granted a charter to explore the region, eliminate its threats, and establish a new realm. But founding a kingdom is harder than swinging a sword. Rivals will rise. Allies will demand loyalty. Dark forces watch from the shadows, waiting to see whether your nation will become a beacon of hope… or something far worse. Will you rule wisely — or rule brutally? ⚔️ Why Play This Campaign? Veteran Dungeon Master: Run by a DM with 43 years of experience, focused on strong pacing, player agency, and memorable storytelling Built for D&D 2024: Monsters, encounters, and companions hand-tuned to match the updated 2024 balance and design philosophy Levels 1–20: A complete heroic arc from unknown adventurers to legendary rulers Kingdom-Shaping Choices: Political decisions, exploration, warfare, and diplomacy all matter A Living World: Rich side quests, recurring NPCs, and evolving threats woven throughout the campaign A Note from the DM on Rules I recommend using a narrative-focused approach to kingdom building rather than the rules as written, which are widely considered slow and cumbersome. You’ll still face intrigue, major threats, and meaningful choices—just without kingdom turns that can take entire sessions. Mass combat may also be streamlined based on group preference. We’ll discuss and decide all of this together during our free Session Zero. If the group prefers the kingdom rules as written, we can use them, though I generally advise against it. We’ll also choose our leveling method as a group: milestone, standard XP, or a modified XP rate (such as 50–75%) to keep progression aligned with the campaign’s pacing while still rewarding exploration.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be using the D&D 5e 2024 rules. Species and Backgrounds will be limited to those appropriate for Golarion, the world of Pathfinder. If you want to use a 2014 subclass or something similar, you will need to get DM approval, but I almost always say yes to those requests.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need a computer, internet, a decent mic or headset, and a computer that can run Foundry VTT in a browser (most computers qualify, but a very slow computer or a small screen might cause some challenges. You will make your character, probably on DND Beyond.

What Robert brings to the table

I will provide the VTT and the world. I will make tokens from the art provided, or you can select from hundreds of professionally made Pathfinder tokens. I've also created some homebrew character creation options, such as the android species or campaign-specific backgrounds for use in character creation.

Homebrew rules

We will discuss and vote on how to handle kingdom management during session zero, and that might well impact mass combat. We will also vote on how to handle XP and advancement. I usually rule that natural 20s always succeed and natural 1s always fail.

How Robert creates a safe table

We will discuss lines and veils during session zero. I also have the X Card module installed in Foundry VTT.
