About the adventure

Every 50 years, the town of Portia holds a festival that culminates in sending out their fastest ship, with their most impressive captain and crew to attempt to explore the Southern Seas. Over 1000 years of this tradition, no ship, nor a single crew member has returned. You have been chosen as one of the crew members for the latest voyage, and the festival is underway. Enjoy your last few days in Portia as a celebrated hero - it will be the last time you see the city for some time. Once the festival is complete, you will set sail, and endeavour to be the first crew to solve the mysteries of the Southern Seas and return. This campaign will start with a session 0 to finalise character creation, to go over what style of game the campaign will be, any house rules, and to go through any topics players would like to be avoided during the game. We will then start the campaign in the throes of Portia's festival, finishing our session 0 with the ship being sent out to begin your journey. This game will have a relaxed, and light-hearted atmosphere. Expect some bizarre story beats as you solve the mystery to Portia's missing crews!

About me

Hey! I'm Rowan. I've been playing tabletop games since I was a kid, when my dad would run Dragon Quest for my sister and I, and then moved onto running one-shots and years long campaigns for my friends in d&d 5e. RPGs have given me some of my favourite memories - whether it's being forced into improvising dozens of book titles in a library by my 'friends', or trying to survive one of my dad's lethal campaigns. I love writing, and creating worlds - and then letting adventurers loose in them to help shape (or destroy) them! In my eyes, the best way to play tabletop games is by not taking them too seriously, while still having an interesting and exciting story behind the jokes - if my players are both engaged, and laughing throughout the session, that's my sign that I'm doing my job!

Character creation

Creating your character

I will send a dnd beyond campaign link for players to make their characters before the session, using the point buy method for ability scores, at level 3 using the sourcebooks I have available shared in the campaign. Characters do not have to be made before session 0 - we will do character creation there to ensure their character fits within the world, and the party, but ideally players will have some idea of what they would like to play!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I run my games through Discord for voice chat and D&D Beyond for character sheets and the virtual tabletop. This means a Discord account, and a D&D Beyond account are required! You will be sent a link for a dndbeyond campaign once you have signed up for the game. Come to session 0 armed with either a character already made in this campaign, or with some ideas of what you would like to play. We will finalise characters during our session 0 to ensure our characters mesh with the world and party. This will allow me to add your character to the battle maps used, and allow me to see your character sheet, and you will be able to use the source materials I have access to! Characters will start at level 3, and use Point Buy to generate abilities. No restrictions on official source material, use any of the options available in the character creator there. We will be using dnd 5e 2024, but feel free to use any of the legacy options available. You will also be sent a link for a Discord server, once it is time for the game, join the waiting room channel, and I will pull you into the channel for the game when it is time to start!

What Rowan - Adventurers Wanted! brings to the table

- Battle maps through DnD Beyond Maps - Atmospheric music through Discord - Character voices, ranging from pretty good to downright awful - A fun and light-hearted atmosphere, promoting creativity in your roleplay and combat - if you've got an idea that's not rules as written, I'll allow it if it's creative or clever enough! - Exciting and sometimes slightly absurd story beats. I like having fun with my story beats, and sometimes that means things get a little weird! - Unique encounters. I like making my combat distinct, and creating new mechanics for them - one encounter might be a beach volleyball game against 3 incredibly hot Orcs, while another could be fighting for your life while figuring out the pattern to traps littering the ground.
