About the adventure

You’re setting off to attend Strixhaven University of Magic, and your acceptance letter comes with an unexpected addendum. A discreet patron—one whose name is absent from official records—has taken a personal interest in your education. They offer subtle support: scholarships that arrive unrequested, introductions made at just the right moment, quiet encouragement to explore opportunities others overlook. In return, they ask for nothing explicit—only that you remain curious, observant, and willing to involve yourself when campus life grows… complicated. Strixhaven is more than lectures and exams. As students balance studies, friendships, and rivalries across the five colleges, strange incidents begin to ripple through the university. Magical mishaps, academic secrets, and long-buried traditions surface, drawing students into events that reach beyond classrooms and into Strixhaven’s deeper history. What begins as a year of learning gradually becomes something more: uncovering mysteries tied to the school itself, navigating social and academic pressures, and deciding who to trust when magic, ambition, and influence collide. At Strixhaven, knowledge is power—but who you learn from, and why, may matter just as much as what you study.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord, Roll20, DNDBeyond (optional) headphones, a microphone, your character, token art.

What GM AP brings to the table

Strixhaven with color maps where available. Some may be animated. Tokenization of your character art complete with breakouts. I do a mix of voices and narratives, use ambient music, have intense tactical combat, and prefer Rules as Written (RaW) but blend with Rule of Cool depending on situation. This will be my first live play through of the Strixhaven module. I've previously run it as a single player Play by Post. Access to my discord server includes 25% or better discounts on a selection of my DM's Guild titles.

Homebrew rules

Scrolls: Using a spell scroll is an Arcana check: use 10 + spell level − your max spell level if it’s on your list, otherwise use 10 + 2×spell level − your caster level. The action required to use a spell scroll is the action required to cast the spell or 1 action, whichever is less. Potions of Healing: • Bonus Action (in combat): Roll the potion’s healing dice. • Action or Out of Combat: Take the potion’s maximum healing value. Cleaving: If a melee attack drops a creature to 0 HP and you dealt excess damage, you may apply the leftover damage to another target in reach that the original attack roll would have hit. Flanking: You gain +2 to melee attack rolls if: • An ally is directly opposite you on the target, or • You have three or more allies adjacent to the same enemy.

Safety

How GM AP creates a safe table

Every session can be a session 0. I use a session opener that encourages players to use/update their safety tool preferences on an ongoing basis. Also included is the ability of players to create private and/or public threads where they need only state their safety tool concerns and I will avoid it and do my best to steer the players away from said concern and handle any desired discussion of the topic to the best of my ability and seek feedback from the concerned where and when necessary before doing so.
