About the adventure
Hot Springs Island, in all its dangers and treasures, awaits! The Dark of Hot Springs Island is a classic hexcrawl adventure that brings to mind ancient tales of survival on distant shores. Your party will be short on resources, with few allies to begin with other than each other, and will have to make every little advantage count. You have come to this land on behalf of the Martel Trading Company with the goal of wealth and fame, and, should you survive as you rapidly tumble in over your heads... you may just find that glory and treasure on the other end! This campaign is designed for a party of four to six adventurers, and will take you from level 3 to 11+. The fate of Hot Springs Island is yours to decide. Will you pillage its treasures and ancient ruins in the name of the Martels? Will you find old and terrible secrets, and bury the island forever? Or will you find some way to bring it to a tenuous and remarkable peace? Only you can decide! This adventure is a modern take on a classic style. The Dark of Hot Springs Island is a hexcrawl adventure that will require you as players and characters to play intelligently, with investment in the story, or to risk losing all you've accomplished. This is not a simple adventure, and while roleplay is important, thinking cleverly is just as important. Bad choices could very easily lead to serious trouble for you and your party. If you like a challenge, you'll find it here! I prioritize a safe table for you and your party, and aim to create a fantasy setting that does not rely on bigotry to create fantastic and exciting experiences.

About me
Greetings and warm wishes, adventurers! Whether you are a bold and hearty hero looking for a fantastical adventure or a clever and cunning scoundrel who just wants to do the job, get paid, and go home, you'll find your place at my table. My name is Craig (he/him), and I've been a game master for more than half of my life. I grew up with my dad telling me all sorts of fantastical stories as a kid, and from there, I only delved deeper. I've run games professionally for a decade now, and have told stories for veterans, new players, and everything in between. When it comes to my philosophy on games, I hold three ideals above all else: ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ The tabletop scene is one shared across a variety of lives and experiences. It doesn't belong to any one group, and we must all look after one another and cultivate our community to make it expansive, welcoming, and safe! Laughter is a universal language. Sharing moments of joy, sorrow, exhiliration, anger, and passion together lets us create memories that last lifetimes! Plus, telling dumb jokes is a fantastic way to blow off steam. I want my table to always be a place you can come to in order to have a good time. Lifelong learning means that the world never grows stale and rote. Following new stories and opening yourself up to new ideas gives you the opportunity to grow, and see the world through someone else's eyes. Yes, it's important to feel comfortable and safe and happy, but sometimes, it's also important to feel a little uncomfortable in order to grow! If you only have the same experiences day after day, then your life will flash right by, and if I can help you avoid that, I'd love to do so. If all of this sounds like it's up your alley, then come on by, grab some dice, and join me for a rollicking and memorable adventure! No matter what your system of choice is, as long as you bring a good attitude and respect for your fellow players, then you'll find a home here. See you at the table!

Creating your character
Character creation will be discussed in-depth during Session Zero and in the group Discord beforehand. Access to both a DnDBeyond campaign and Roll20 campaign for character creation will be provided when you join the game, and you can feel free to discuss character concepts in the group Discord ahead of time. I strongly suggest that you not completely finalize character creation until after it has been discussed during Session Zero, as after discussing it with the party, you may wish to make some alterations to better fit into the party's identity and goals. Characters will start at 3rd level. 27 Point-Buy for stats, not rolled. Averages for HP instead of rolling. Characters start with one Uncommon magic item of their choice, with a few exempt items. Further prep materials will be provided to you once you're signed up for the campaign, to give you a more in-depth look at just how character-building works. I offer several additional perks for new characters to help you create the character of your dreams!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Voice and video communication will be run through Discord, with Roll20 or DnDBeyond used for character creation, and Roll20 for battlemaps, visual aids, and dice rolling. You are not obligated to use video, but I will mostly be running with my video on. ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ : ๐ก๏ธ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐, and remain on push-to-talk or otherwise mute yourself between speaking if you expect to have disruptive background noise.

How Craig Chapman creates a safe table
The Dark of Hot Springs Island contains a huge variety of content, and, more than many adventures, is heavily player driven. The type of content that players encounter and the way that players encounter it is largely up to the players to determine, meaning that while many content warnings are listed, these are only possibilities - not guarantees. Some other content may be encountered depending on player choices, but there will always be options to either reject this content, or skip past it and leave it veiled. Session 0 will help to determine more of what will be or will not be encountered. I run a script-heavy Roll20 game with plenty of visual aids and handouts, and will (usually) post most of these to a group Discord as well. Dynamic lighting, scripts to improve the accessibility and quality of your game, and macros to make every element of the game as simple as possible are all elements that I offer. These elements can be disabled upon request, if there are issues with lag or concerns about usability. We will use Roll20 as a virtual table-top (VTT) for gameplay and dice-rolling, and Discord for voice and (optional) video. I will use a camera, but you are not required to do so unless you want to. I use music bots in Discord for audio and ambience, but can also use Syrinscape upon request. I will have Discord open at all times on a separate monitor, so if you want to ask me any questions or have concerns about the gameplay, you can message me either straight through Roll20 or through Discord. I am also available throughout the week (excluding Saturdays) to help troubleshoot any tech issues or character questions, to a reasonable extent. Prior to our Session Zero, I will make sure everyone has a copy of the consent checklist to fill out, so that I can note during our conversation what matters are off-limits, and give you some anonymity if you want it. Our Session Zero will cover campaign direction and themes, the main elements of the campaign, preferred style of play and difficulty, content warnings and safety concerns, character creation guidelines, party integration, player etiquette, and house rules. If there are any other elements you'd like to discuss, please feel free to bring them up with me ahead of time, and I will discuss with you as to whether or not we should include them in our conversation.
