About the adventure
I first created the Gauntlet when some of my players couldnāt make it to the regularly scheduled sessions but the rest of us wanted to meet up and play. We decided to try to experiment and see how hard we could push the boundaries of character creation, then pit some crazy broken characters against the most insane bosses in the game. Ever wondered how your favorite level 20 Eldritch Knight would measure up to a demon lord? The Gauntlet is the place for your party to test it out. The Rules: Each player makes three level 20 characters. Each character can have three magic items and as much nonmagical gear as the player wants (barring bombs, potions, and the like). [more details on character creation under the player needs section] You will all enter a combat, choosing one of the three characters you made, against a crazy monster. If you beat that, then you move on to another map with a new monster, no rests. If your character dies, then you switch to your next one, same initiative, and just keep going. Once you lose all three characters, youāre out. Experience some of DnDās most intense boss battles, see what level 20 characters are really capable of, and (most importantly) have a good time.

About me
My name is Jared Grace, I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, I have a wife and 2 wonderful kids, and I have been a dungeon master for DnD games for over 14 years. Iāve been a player a couple of times, but my true passion is telling the stories of players who come in and out of my games. I grew up in Los Angeles and was first introduced to tabletop games by a bunch of grognogs at my LGS. Their creativity and willingness to write stories for everyoneās enjoyment instilled a love for the game in me that I have yet to find in any other game. I DMed for fun at my LGS for years, and when I moved to Washington state for college, I converted my entire friend group (and eventually my wife) into players. Nowadays, Iām based in New York, but we still have a long-running campaign that we meet up for virtually every Sunday. Outside of DnD, I work as an assistant winemaker and love cooking, gaming, and spending time with my family.

Creating your character
Before the Gauntlet you should bring three of the most powerful characters you can possibly build. Yes, I really do mean most powerful, min-max to your heartās content. Each of your characters should be level 20 and should follow the rules as written with no homebrew. You can use any official sourcebook from 5th edition DnD that you have access to on DnD beyond. (I have the master subscription and can potentially share my sourcebooks with people in the one-shot, but this depends how many campaigns Iām running at the time.) When creating your stats, follow standard array just so anyone playing together has a similar starting point. For equipment, you can have up to three magic items from official sources (unless approved ahead of time) with a maximum of one being a legendary or artifact level magic item. You can have any other equipment you like ā within reason (no potions or 5000 bombs or somethingā¦). A couple of things to keep in mind: these fights will happen in immediate succession with no long or short rests. Initiative will be re-rolled each fight and when your character dies you will switch to the next character and retain the same initiative. If you have any other questions please donāt hesitate to reach out!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I run all of my games nowadays online with two main platforms: Discord and DnD Beyond. When using Discord I like to have video and audio for everyone. I feel like it feels more connecting and fun for everyone. Of course if youāre not comfortable with video then you donāt have to, but I do recommend it. You are not required to have a separate mic or webcam. For DnD beyond you will need an account where you can make your characters. I also use DnD beyond maps for our combats but thatās completely integrated with your account so thereās nothing more you need to do on your end! Other than that, a good attitude and a thirst for adventure!
What jared grace brings to the table
I will be providing - maps and pieces through the vtt with DnD beyond. - music through a Discord bot - voices and theatrics through my voice - extra characters in case you are having trouble making three characters that you want to play. Just let me know ahead of time if you want to use them so I make sure I have enough for the day of the game. I love the rule of cool and if you have some cool ideas we can totally work something in.
Homebrew rules
Iām a huge user of homebrew rules in all of my games, but I feel the Gauntlet ends up being so much more fun with rules as written because we are min-maxing everything.

How jared grace creates a safe table
I will send a link to a Google forms document for players to fill out before the game so that I can tweak things to make them more to your comfort, This will involve lines and veils, as well as preferences of how you prefer to communicate things in the moment as this wonāt be a typical DnD experience so things might be a little different.
