About the adventure

Looking for players for a heavily RP and story-focused campaign still packed with lots of action, comedy (can't stress this enough) and intrigue. The main focus of my game is player agency and their impact on the world of Ondoria. Ideally looking for more seasoned players that are comfortable with taking big swings and chasing down leads on their own. The game has shaken out to about 60% RP and 40% combat/action. Combats will almost always involve multiple win/fail scenarios and avoid all-out slug fests for the most part (because sometimes a tournament arc is just what the party needed). The game will take place in and around the port city of Belmont in a world that has recovered from a major cataclysm 500 years prior. The setting has developed into something similar to Eberron meets Final Fantasy so high magic and higher tech than standard fantasy. Yes, that means firearms are welcome. Hope to see you at the table!

About me

Welcome y'all, I'm the head DM and owner of Fighters' Guild Gaming and looking forward to games here on Start Playing! I've been playing since 2012 and because no one else wanted to do it (a tale as old as TTRPG) and chose to do it myself. Since then have built out a still-expanding homebrew world, Ondoria, created by myself and the great community of (mostly) local players and friends. Emphasis on RP and "objective-based combat" where most fights aren't just battles between hit-sponges. Key skills are system knowledge (specifically DnD), improv, worldbuilding, and making sure the table has fun as a whole. Games I'm Ready to Run: DnD 5e(2014): I know this system like the back of my hand and have multiple settings/modules ready to play. One is more similar to Eberron in terms of setting and magic while the other is set five hundred years in the past of that same world and is more traditional DnD vibes. Emphasis on some political plots unless the group strays toward something else. DnD 5e (2024): If we wanted to run this version the pay would be lower for the first few months as we adjust collectively to the new rules. Lancer: I have one specific campaign written for this system that I am newer to but am very comfortable running. A game focused on Beyond Union activity that is very Gundam/Armored Core flavored. Cyberpunk Red: another game where I would do a lower fee as I would be running the game for the first time. Have more than enough understanding to run a fun corporate espionage/rebellion against the corpos game. And I do wish we lived in a world where this was obvious but EVERYONE is welcome at my table. If you're a fun player, you're welcome here. Thanks ahead of time for reading all this and hope to get some rolls from y'all soon.

Character creation

Creating your character

Ideally, I'd like for everyone to come to the table with ideas for characters more so than fully fleshed out characters. I prefer to create characters as a group and will be the main focus of our session 0. We'll be using a punched up standard array for characters. It's a heroic(ish) story so I like strong stats for players. PCs will start at third level so that subclasses, etc are already locked in, I feel like this makes character creation a bit better. I'm open to character ideas of any official race or class (including CR stuff) as I'm still building out this world and fleshing out lore for new races will be fun for me as a cooperative activity.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Need: Discord account and a functional microphone, Roll20 account, DnD Beyond account, familiarity with DnD 5e (2014) Preferred: webcam (I really prefer to play over camera as in my experience it helps cut down on crosstalk or talking over each other, and general ideas for characters

What Zack V the FGM brings to the table

- A decade of experience in running DnD 5e and other systems. - A fun environment for roleplay and improv including silly voices (I will be doing a LOT of dumb voices) and encouraging huge narrative swings. - A proficiency in improv within ttrpg that means I will hardly ever shut down a character action if I can get a good enough explanation - A loose style within rules interpretation that both embraces rule of cool when it feels right and maintaining actual balance to the game - An openness to weird character ideas (like a former PC who played a barbarian research assistant who raged due to academic frustration) - Almost all of the content needed for character creation available on DnD Beyond - A plethora of maps, art, tokens, etc. on Roll20 - An open door policy where I'm always willing to answer any questions if I'm not actively at my other job. - An invitation to a growing community on my Discord that's large enough to meet some new and like-minded players for both TTRPG and video games, but small enough to not feel lost in a crowd. - And finally, a genuine love for TTRPG and everything about it that I've been told can be quite infectious.

Homebrew rules

These tend to come up during play more than fully at session zero, but after the fact of any off-the-cuff ruling will be discussed by the group to decide whether we keep the rule or not.

Safety

How Zack V the FGM creates a safe table

I take player safety very seriously so there will be an obligatory session 0 before starting the game and at any point there is a change in players. The main tools I use are session 0, checking in after games to make sure everyone is on the same page, making sure players know that they can ALWAYS reach out to me individually about any issues either with myself or with other players, and swiftly ousting anyone from the game who crosses any obviously egregious boundaries. I have personally never in my ten years of DMing had an issue where a player left out of issues with content or feeling uncomfortable and I've played with a wide range of people from all kinds of identities. But I've never used X,N,O cards directly but if at session 0 the group wants to implement this system I am MORE than willing to learn and implement them. All are welcome at my table if they respect everyone else at the table.
