About the adventure

Phandelver & Below: A Classic Tale Reimagined Phandalin is a town of rumors, gold, and growing shadows. While it starts with a simple job—escorting a wagon of supplies—you’ll quickly find yourselves at the center of a mystery that threatens the very sanity of the Sword Coast. This isn't just a dungeon crawl; it’s a journey into the unknown where ancient obelisks and whispering shadows turn a classic adventure into something far more sinister. For Every Type of Adventurer Whether you are picking up the dice for the first time or you’ve been roaming the Forgotten Realms for decades, there is a seat for you at this table. I specialize in teaching the ropes to beginners while providing the depth and challenge that veterans crave. My goal is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where the only requirement is a desire to go on an epic adventure. What to Expect A Healthy Mix: A balanced blend of tactical combat, social maneuvering, and exploration. "You can certainly try.": If you have a creative idea that moves the story forward, I’m probably going to let you try it. Dynamic World: Your actions have consequences. Help the town, and they’ll remember it; cross the wrong person, and the world will react.

About me

I've played Dungeons and Dragons for over 5 years and DM/Gm'd for over 4 of those. I enjoy creating a "realistic" fantasy world. Not super gritty (usually) but where the story and events follow cause and effect i.e. magic works a certain way and so do people: you can't kill a town of villagers and not expect some kind of consequence (yes murder hobos I'm talking to you). I've played primarily DnD 5e but have studied other gaming systems and other editions of the game and have house rules that I've used in the past that have come from those systems. I tend to like 5e because of how flexible to change it is. I love doing voices but am out of practice so on a good day I'm solid but on other days I'm going to lean on the narration until I have more time to dedicate to the practice of the craft. However, if you are looking for a systematic connected world where the players' choices have fallout in both direct and indirect ways then I'm the gm for you.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will build characters together at the first session as a session zero and initial start of the campaign (we'll actually have your characters all gather in the tavern to meet you patron after a short break from character creation. Characters will be starting at level 1. We will roll together on dndbeyond as part of session zero but feel free to build your character minus stats if you want. I will provide you a game link upon acceptance at the table. As far as what you can be: anything that I have on dndbeyond which is a wide range based on the content that is available. If you've never made a character before just reach out and I can help or we can do it as part of session zero. The personality traits of each character are something I would encourage you to think about I try and keep track of these and will reward times that you stay true to your characters ideals flaws and personality in both rp and even combat. Most important: have fun! Bring a character to the table that you are both excited to play and excited to share. Let's see what your imagination can look like and the best part: there aren't any wrong answers!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need the following accounts: -Discord -dndbeyond (you will not need to pay for anything the free tier is perfect and I will be sharing my content with the table.) Once you are at the table here at startplaying I will send you links for our discord server and a link for the campaign.

What Peter brings to the table

My DM Style: Immersion & Innovation I am a firm believer in a living world. While I love bringing NPCs to life with distinct voices and personalities, my priority is always story immersion over a "perfect performance." I focus on the atmosphere, the tension, and the emotional stakes of your journey. Fair warning to those who have played this module before: I enjoy putting my own spin on the lore and mechanics. Between my custom modifications and the unique choices your party makes, no two versions of Phandalin are ever the same. We aren't just reading a book; we are telling your story. I believe in consequences: actions and reactions. So while I the gm am your friend and want you to win: the BBEG is not, that monster in the dark is not... you get the idea: the dire wolf will kill your character if you give it the chance.

Safety

How Peter creates a safe table

at session zero we are going to discuss content rating of the campaign and the X, N, O system and explain why it can and should be used at all times. I will explain how I have a response to certain visual stimulus on tv shows and so if something is triggering it does matter and I do care. That is why we will follow the ratings we set as a group and we will respect each other in them. I will draft a lines and veils documents based on our group discussion and then validate it with everyone.
