About the adventure

We will be playing a short-medium campaign with an island setting, unknown places to be discovered, a mystery to be solved, and survival is always the objective. You will encounter unexpected characters, tracks of what has happened in this place, and will face decisions about how to approach or who to help (if anyone). The final objective is to escape the island, it is your duty to find the route out, but I do expect you to engage with what is happening in the Island in your journey to find that exit.

About me

Hi, I'm Ban, biologist, gimnast and Game master. Since I found out about D&D I knew I wanted to be a dungeon master and create stories for my friends and as soon as I did so and heard everyone's feedback, I knew it was the right choice. I like to shape the world around things my friends like(or fear) and create a good story for them and their characters. I mostly will adapt everything so the characters(whatever they are) will be a main part of the plot.

Character creation

Creating your character

This is a beginner-friendly campaign, so character creation can be completed in the 1st session. You can create your character beforehand if you prefer, and I expect you to come with a draft of what you would like to play as before we start, so we have a starting point at the very least. You can refer to the Player's Handbook for character creation, I use dndbeyond, so we will create your character sheet on that platform. You are welcome to use any other books you have access to for subclasses, spells, etc, and homebrew is a possibility if approved by me. For this campaign, unfortunately, we cannot feature species with swimming speed or underwater breathing, as it would defeat the purpose of the Island being the limit.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use dndbeyond and vtt maps in dndbeyond, you need to create an account, its really easy. For communication we will use Discord, once we will start the campaign i will dm you the link to the discord channel, just have it downloaded and an account ready.

What Ban Ragnarson brings to the table

I will use several voices for the different NPCs that you will encounter through the campaign, though my library of voices is limited. I will have music to give some ambience to every scene and combat. We use the handbook as a guide; most rules will apply as they are written, a couple of them are homebrew, and I will explain them at the beginning, and the rule of cool is an option, but it is not an all-the-time thing.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion is a bonus action. Critical hits are: max possible damage, plus role for damage. You might get scars (eg, you are now slightly afraid of fire if a fireball almost killed you last time) when you are downed, which makes it more dramatic every time you are close to dying, and not just a walk through the park.

How Ban Ragnarson creates a safe table

In session 0, we will talk about the lines and veils, the limits of what will and will not happen, and what is expected from the players, respect, clarity, etc.
