About the adventure
If you've played some of the wonderful scripted campaigns and want to try something new, consider exploring the Shadow Delve. A whole new world with a new twist on the species and cultures in it. I believe that an experienced player will savor the new flavors and spices presented in this campaign, but you don't have to be a pro to have fun! If you are brand new, there are starter campaigns that are set up for you. If you have played some, and feel like you've got a good grasp, and you're looking for something different, than this is the game for you! If you've played for years and want to play in a game where choices matter, and surprising, new things are around the corner, click on that button! I'll be straight with you. I'm looking to run games with Good PCs who may have flaws, but try to do right. If you're looking to commit war crime after war crime, I'm probably not a good fit.

About me
The dim flickering light in the tavern makes shadows dance and the soft murmur of hushed secrets and whispered negotiations is overwhelmed with the sharp BANG of the door slamming open. The short, muscular figure swaggers in, backlit by the blinding afternoon light. Her voice is smoke and honey. "Oy, Luvs. Who's up for a little danger?" Let's be Brave, my friends! Make BOLD choices. Hi, I'm Jim. I first played D&D back around 1980 at the age of 12, and have played off and on all my life. I have performed in theatre since 1995, and have performed improvisation for over a decade. In both improv and the game Fiasco, characters should make bold choices, which serves to heighten the story arc. I found LARP to be a creative outlet for both acting and costume design, and have played for over a decade, and have been a Story Teller for much of that time. I graduated from college with a degree in Art, and work at a sign company, so I enjoy the creative challenge of making my own maps and tokens. I have been lucky to play in 3 different campaigns run by talented DMs that have created unique worlds and stories, each flavored by their individual style. I was inspired to create my own world and run campaigns that are highly customized around the players in my game and the stories that they want to tell.

Creating your character
Since this is a homebrew world, when you join the campaign, I recommend that you look at the pdfs about the species and factions of the world before you come up with character concepts. We'll be using the DndBeyond 5e 2024 rules, and is set up there. Players start at 3rd level, with starting equipment. You can roll stats on my discord server, use standard array or point buy in dndbeyond. We will work together to develop your backstory.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need to have accounts in Discord, Roll20 and DndBeyond. You will want to use Chrome and add the Beyond20 app. We use Discord to organize games and communicate. I have a campaign in DndBeyond for you to create your character in and we use Roll20 to play.
What JimprovDnD brings to the table
I created a vibrant, exciting and dangerous world, and will do my best to describe and explain it. We'll work together to create your backstory and I will flesh out the characters that you know, both friends and foe. You can expect your story hooks to affect the campaign. Each campaign will be unique in ways, because the various backstories of the group will connect and alter the direction of the campaign. I like combat to be challenging, but quick paced. I know the world and your characters are the story. I believe ambient music and character voices add to the overall experience and do my best to make the game entertaining.
Homebrew rules
Non-lethal damage: Non-lethal damage needs to be explainable in terms of physics and biology. I use 'crunchy crits,' where your critical damage dice always do max damage. (Critical hits should be exciting and rolling a couple 1s on your crit dice is not exciting.) Stacking Advantage and Disadvantage: Both Players and NPCs can benefit or suffer the effects of multiple sources. The same source won’t stack, but different sources can add up. Stacked Advantage: Advantage roll and +3 to hit Stacked Disadvantage: Disadvantage to roll and -3 to hit Critical failure on attack roll: Player or NPC rolls a natural 1. In melee – The NPC or PC who is attacked can use their reaction to take an opportunity attack. Ranged attacks – weapon misfires and won’t work the rest of this turn and next turn. Spell attacks – caster is stunned by magical energies and is incapacitated until the beginning of their next turn.

How JimprovDnD creates a safe table
I use session 0 to communicate my expectations for players and to learn your limits. I also like to learn your hopes and expectations, which isn't for safety, but to make sure you enjoy the game. I set up a private channel for each player on Discord, so you can send your X,N & O to me privately if you don't feel comfortable saying it. I have a Stars & Wishes channel and run a short debrief at the end of each session.
