About the adventure
When the adventure begins, each character enters The Tavern of Endless Trials with nothing but their wits, their class, and 1,000 gold pieces. They start at level 1, regardless of their backstory, as the gods strip all who enter of past glories to see what they can truly become. The tavern serves as the party’s hub, a place to rest, plan, and prepare before each descent into the crystal’s trials. Robert, the goblin proprietor, acts as both merchant and guide. He is capable of acquiring any mundane or magical item the players request, provided they can afford it, though prices may fluctuate as the gods interfere. Likewise, Robert will purchase anything the party brings back from the crystal’s domains, from weapons and relics to monster parts and cursed trinkets, converting their victories into gold and future power. At the heart of the tavern stands the towering crystal, which activates when four worthy adventurers touch it. Doing so transports the party into one of the ten deadly terrain-domains, where they must battle through multiple encounters, collect loot, and search for the exit crystal that will return them to the tavern. Each run is dangerous, unpredictable, and designed to test the party’s endurance, teamwork, and tactical skill. As players complete runs, they gain experience, level up, and unlock new opportunities both inside and outside the dungeon. Stronger foes, rarer loot, and hidden paths begin to appear, allowing the party to shape how their journey unfolds. Over time, what begins as a simple hunt for gold becomes a deeper exploration of the tavern’s secrets, Robert’s curse, and the divine forces that turned survival into a game.

About me
Hi, my name is Ian, I have been a DM for my friends for the last 11 years, and I have been building immersive worlds for people to play in. I definitely lean more into making RP focused games with sprinkles of combat where survival is important, and more often than not I award investigating and asking questions over fighting and killing everything on site. I like long term campaigns more than one shots but have been trying to work more with keeping things short. I usually try to keep my sessions within a 3 hour window with two 15 minute breaks for people to use the bathroom, grab drinks or snacks, with the knowledge that we might end early or late depending on the situation. I don't like ending in the middle of combat, so if we are nearing the end of the session and I feel that a combat encounter is going to take longer than the time we have left, I would rather start the next session with the encounter.

What Focal brings to the table
Hi, I will make sure everyone has any and all books from the D&D beyond store, I will have a campaign link that you will use to creat your characters. For this one-shot/campaign there will be a lot of combat, so I do not mind if players min-max, in fact I encourage it. I will try to put on music if discord allows me, or if I remember. I will always look at rules as written, but will occassionally use rule of cool if I think it's cool!
Homebrew rules
I allow my players to drink potions as a free action, and if you want to get the full healing of a potion, you may use a bonus action. For critical hits, I allow max roll+Damage.
