About the adventure

This one-shot is a murder-mystery style horror adventure, made to test intermediate and above players problem solving and investigation skills, as well as combat prowess if necessary. You and your party members arrive at an isolated snowy village far north of the nearest settlement, told of a great reward to anyone who can root out the person, or thing, that has led to the disappearance of all but one of the villages infants. Some suspect demons, others fear a curse has been put down on them by some higher power, and many lock their doors and turn on their neighbors out of fear. Will you save the final child and the rest of the village? Or will Sleetwood become a frozen husk, with only the corpses to occupy its homes.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made rules as written according to the 2024 DnD PHB (if not from the 2024 books, don't use it), starting at level 3. All backgrounds, classes and subclasses are allowed and will have standard equipment + 1 common rarity magic item. Use point buy or standard array for abillity scores. Full backstories will not necessary due to the nature of this being a one-shot, but have some idea of your character's general background and what they do when they aren't adventuring Characters can be made either on DnD Beyond and the link shared to me or simply send me a PDF version.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a character ready for game night per the outline listed in the character creation section. I use discord for voice communication and a server will be made for the session. For our VTT I use Owlbear Rodeo. It is free and browser based, requiring only an email address to make an account.

What William brings to the table

Fillable versions of both character sheets as well as the lines and veils document will be provided. I create almost all the maps to be used in my adventures using Dragon Map Maker. I attempt to make combat encounters more interactive through the map design, so feel free to pick up any objects you see and throw em at a goblin! Ambient music will be done through the Discord group listening features as well as screen sharing if the situation calls for it. I sometimes will do a voice for more extreme characters ( I.E. a demon or lich would sound very different than a humanoid) but otherwise I tend to stick closely to my regular voice. I try to stick to rules as written or already discussed homebrew rules for most situations, but am willing to grant rule of cool if I feel it would enhance everyone's fun.

Homebrew rules

You roll your damage dice and attack roll dice at the same time, just for time saving purposes, and potion take a bonus action to heal.

Safety

How William creates a safe table

The lines and veils document will be sent out for everyone to complete (note: if one of the topics in the content warnings section is a hard line for you then it may be safer to not participate in this one shot). We will take a halftime break during the session to recoup and collect our thoughts and players are allowed to step out at anytime if they need a bit away from the game. X, N, & O cards will be simply messaged in the chat publicly to let everyone know how to proceed.
