About the adventure

New to Dungeons & Dragons? You’re in the right place. This campaign is designed specifically for beginners who want to learn D&D in a welcoming, low-pressure environment—while still getting meaningful choices, memorable characters, and exciting adventures. What This Campaign Is Like Dragon of Icespire Peak is a quest-driven sandbox. Instead of being pushed down a single storyline, you choose what your party tackles next from a town quest board. Hunt monsters, protect villages, explore ruins, or follow leads that interest your characters. There isn’t one rigid “main plot,” but the world reacts to your choices, and I actively integrate your character’s backstory to create personal arcs, recurring NPCs, and consequences that matter. Think of it as a series of connected adventures that slowly become your story. My GMing Style If you’re nervous about rules, roleplay, or “doing it wrong,” that’s normal and it’s exactly what I’m good at helping with. You can expect: Clear, patient teaching: rules are explained as they come up, without lectures or rule dumps (at least not very big ones) Player agency first: your decisions shape the direction and tone of the campaign. Want goofy? Lean towards edgy? Want to feel it out first? Totally okay! Beginner-friendly pacing: I give space to think, ask questions, and learn at your own speed and I'm never afraid of repeating myself or rephrasing. Inclusive & safety-focused play: everyone deserves to feel safe, comfortable, and heard Creative problem solving: clever ideas are encouraged, not shut down. Combat is never the only option. I aim for a balance where the rules support the story, not smother it. You don’t need to be confident, loud, or experienced, just curious and willing to try. Roleplay, Combat, and Story Balance This campaign offers a mix of combat, exploration, and roleplay, with the exact balance shifting based on what the party enjoys. NPC interactions and character moments grow naturally over time, especially as I learn what interests you and your character. Voices, mood, and atmosphere are used to add immersion, helping you get lost in the story. Who This Game Is For Brand-new D&D players Players who want structure and freedom People who value learning, collaboration, and creativity Anyone who wants their character to matter in the world to the people in it No prior D&D experience required. If you’ve never played a tabletop RPG before, you’ll be supported from session one. If you want a D&D campaign where you can learn comfortably, make real choices, and see your character grow, Dragon of Icespire Peak is a great place to start. Questions before joining? I’m happy to help—just ask.

About me

Welcome to your next Table Adventure! I'm Ryan (he/him), the GM behind Tafelavontuur. I specialize in running beginner-friendly tabletop games where players can learn at their own pace, ask questions freely, and feel confident making choices even if it's their very first session. My goal is always the same: make sure everyone at the table feels comfortable, involved, and excited to keep playing. I run games that are player-driven and flexible. I enjoy teaching rules as they come up, keeping the game moving forward without overwhelming anyone. Clever ideas and creative problem-solving are encouraged, and I work with players to make their characters feel like they truly belong in the world. While I don't force heavy roleplay, I do enjoy bringing NPCs and situations to life when moments call for it. Safety and includion matter to me. I use clear safety tools, set expectations up front, and check in when needed so the table stays fun and respectful for everyone. Whether you're brand new to TTRPGs or just looking for a relaxed, supportive GM, you can expect a game that's welcoming, well-paced, and focused on shared enjoyment. If you're curious but nervous, you're exactly the kind of player I love running games for.

Character creation

Creating your character

All you need to bring is creativity and imagination. Pick a few characters from your favorite book, tv show, anime, or videogame and we'll make something completely unique for you to play. Have you ever wanted to cast flame magic like Roy Mustang? Or lurk in the shadows like Ezio Auditore da Firenze? Whatever your inspiration, D&D makes dreams happen and I can't wait to hear yours.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Discord for voice calls and Foundry (hosted by Sqyre) for virtual tabletop play. You will need a microphone and account for Discord, but can be used directly from your browser or downloaded (optional). You'll also need to create an account through Sqyre which is used directly from your browser.

What Ryan - Tafelavontuur brings to the table

Are you new to Dungeons & Dragons, or tabletop roleplaying? You'll learn entirely by playing and having fun. I guide you through the rules as they come up, answer questions on the spot, and make sure you never feel lost. The mechanics fade into the background so that we can focus on your story. I'll walk you step-by-step from character idea to finished character sheet. Our table is set up for clarity; the handbook is easily accessible, dungeons and other scenes are clearly mapped, and combat is easy to keep track of. You'll always see where you are, know what quests are available to you, and understand your options at a glance. Ready to learn by doing?

Safety

How Ryan - Tafelavontuur creates a safe table

This table is built on trust, kindness, and curiosity. I’ve worked with many first-time players and folks from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ players, those exploring the hobby for the first time, and kids. I want everyone at the table to feel seen, respected, and free to enjoy the game however they want to engage. I use Session 0, safety tools, and private onboarding calls to make that happen. Every new player gets a brief one-on-one meeting with me before joining. This is a low-pressure space where we talk about expectations, comfort zones, and accessibility needs. During sessions, I check in regularly and maintain open communication, so anyone can speak up if something doesn’t feel right to make sure this table is the right fit for you and that everyone shares respect for one another. You deserve a space where you can show up fully as yourself!
