About the adventure
Blood Over Altenheim is an urban sandbox based Grim Hollow campaign that puts player agency at the forefront to shape the narrative. It deals with themes of corruption and political intrigues full of conspiracies and depravity. An overarching narrative exists and responds to all your major story choices throught the setting but ultimately players determine the focus. You're not heroes...yet: Etharis is a tough, brutal world full of mysteries both wondrous and terrifying, but it's not for the timid. There will be challenges beyond the numerical value of your characters that will either need to be problem solved or avoided all together. True heroism comes from facing adversity you moraly oppose and understanding that doing so well cost you greatly.

Creating your character
Your characters should have personal steaks in the health of the Bürach Empire whether it's in support, solidarity, or defiance. Connection to the city and your party will be at the forefront to evolving the story. Creation Rules: The 2024 Players Handbook will be used to make characters with no restrictions on classes. When generating ability scores, use the standard roll method of 4d6 (drop the lowest) four times instead of six. Your character gets an automatic 18 and 6 to assign to any two abilities. Core Races: The Etharis species include all but Tieflings, Goliaths and Aasimar from the Player's Handbook as well as the expanded species from the Grim Hollow Player's Guide. All other races not listed here are accepted only on a case by case basis. It is important to stay faithful to Grim Hollows themes of gritty dark fantasy but at the same time story ideas revolving around the inclusion of non-compliance species are important if uniqueness is central to your character's arc. Setting the Scene: Your characters will already be in the imperial capitol of Altenheim - "The City of Joy" where they will learn of the passing of Lord General Vassily Roemer of the Säullan Council. Everything else that happens in the city may be a result of his death for you to investigate and interact with.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A D&D Beyond account and a Discord account b are required to join this campaign. I build a world / adventure around the player's character sheets to create challenging encounters and to determine player interest of the world in the notes you take. Discord is used primarily for communication both during and away from active gameplay
What The Dungeon Dork brings to the table
What I bring as a performer: I have an unhinged passion for theater and acting. My whole teenage years were spent on the stage putting on performances for others. I went to college for film and theater that unfortunately never came to fruition but I am a cinemophile all the same. While I act less, I still perform by way of costuming; I immerse myself into the character to become that character. You can expect that same kind of dedication here! I love doing voices and while I've debated with the idea of getting into voice acting, TTRPGs is a great way to work those muscles so to speak. Film has taught me a lot about transitions tempo and techniques that I try to translate into story telling elements to evoke a similar response as you would have watching a movie. What I bring as a GM: Owlbear Rodeo will be used as our default VTT as it is very versatile, has a user friendly interface and is FREE for all players. I will provide a link to my Discord channel to use to coordinate sessions and run voice / video chats for each session. Lastly, though not required, I will also provide a Spotify Jam Session link each session of play for added ambiance work thematically appropriate music What I bring as a person: I am a friendly ball of manic energy. I recognize it can be a little Intimidating to some but ultimately I want to be your friend and collaborator! I want to have fun, but I have WAY more fun if you do! I want to foster open and friendly creative collaboration to see what kind of tale we can weave!
Homebrew rules
Death Saves: When a character drops to 0 hit points, they may choose to either go unconscious or keep fighting. A character that keeps fighting is considered dying. While dying, a character takes a point of Exhaustion (The Exhaustion is accumulated) and continues to make Death Saves as normal. When a character fails three death saves or takes on six points of Exhaustion, they are dead. A character that succeeds all their death saves may then choose to go unconscious or stay in combat. When this happens, you may roll hit dice up to half your level to recover hit points. A Natural 20 on any Death Save allows a character to roll up to their maximum level in hit dice. The Spare the Dying cantrip stabilizes a dying character but that character falls unconscious. Brutal Criticals:

How The Dungeon Dork creates a safe table
Player Safety is a living policy; meaning it can and will change when needed to by the group. I would like to cover as much as I can on here and before the campaign starts but I acknowledge that there could be potential lines and veils not covered as a forethought either during our after a session.
