About the adventure

Set in the years between the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. The Star in the Mist is a simple treasure trek in the hills west of the Shire. This one-shot is a great jumping in point for people looking to try out and learn One Ring 2e. Bilbo Baggins has gathered a team of many colors to seek the Star in the Mist. A lost keep from the days of Arthedain and the Angmar Wars. You will be part of that team. Hoping to find the lost ruin, and unravel its secrets before bandits (or other, less human, beings) bury and loot all memory of the ancient place.

About me

I've been gaming for 18ish years. I got my start in the before times of 3.5e D&D, and slowly but steadily expanded into other systems. I run all sorts of games, with a focus on narrative flow, collaboration, and ease of play (very much not above heavily house-ruling out clunky mechanics).

Character creation

Creating your character

The One Ring is not crunch heavy, but it is not rules-lite. Character creation for this will be simple. We will spend the first hour of play crafting fun, treasure-hunter-style, characters. We will craft each character, build connections between them, and then jump in! Characters start at the power level they are at creation. All stats are based on the choice of heritage, with skill and proficiencies water-falling from that choice (and a little bit of point buy). We will only be using character creation options from The One Ring 2e: Core Rulebook.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All my players need is a Discord account, dice, a character sheet, and a willingness to get into the Tolkien vibes. I will compile all players into my DMing Discord server. Should be a popping time.

What Seamus (shay-mus) Copland brings to the table

My style is very fluid. I'm focused far more on the experience than on the letter of the law. I respect story and rules, but I will be breaking the 4th wall. I use a lot of curated playlists. Each beat of the story will be convened both in narration, and in music. I also will be able to provide pdf's of a rule cheat sheet, and digital versions of the character sheet. Combat is focused on weight and speed. I will not be measuring hexes or anything like that. The messiness of combat is more flavorful for a Middle Earth on the brink of falling to the shadow creeping out of Mordor.

How Seamus (shay-mus) Copland creates a safe table

If, during the course of the session, someone is made uncomfortable by something happening. We stop, we talk about it, change what we need to, and continue. If someone is, and continues to be, a problem at the table. Refusing to not say things that create discomfort, they will not be returning to the game. I can offer a lot of leeway. But not for jerks.
