About the adventure
Set in one of (if not the) most recognisable worlds in Dungeons and Dragons, Our adventure takes place in the Forgotten Realms, Candlekeep Library is a fortress of knowledge, found on the edge of the Sword Coast, south of Baldurs Gate. Following the anthology of stories from the Candlekeep Mysteries sourcebook, the party will be faced with intrigue and investigation, as well as some curious people and creatures. Expect to touch on the three "pillars of play", with social interaction between the game characters, exploring the magical library and beyond, with a healthy mix of combat as the party gets exclusive access beyond the Emerald Door. Our characters seek knowledge, maybe to help a loved one, advance their career, maybe for more nefarious intentions, regardless the strings of fate have pulled them in the same direction.

About me
Hi, I’m Brian! I’ve been running TTRPGs for about five years, mostly as a D&D 5e Dungeon Master with three campaigns and plenty of one-shots behind me. I enjoy welcoming new players, helping them find their footing, and making sure everyone has a great time at the table. I have experience with VTTs and map software, but I believe the most accessible and memorable games come from theatre of the mind. I use vivid description and imagination to bring the world to life. Maps and tokens can be useful, but I focus on painting scenes with words so players can step into the story without barriers. I also enjoy running other systems such as Pendragon, Monster of the Week, and some of Grant Howitt’s one-page RPGs. I’m always excited to learn and run new games too, and I already have The One Ring and Pathfinder on my shelf waiting for their turn at the table. My style leans toward collaborative storytelling, cinematic moments, and keeping the rules smooth so the narrative shines. Whether you want a full campaign, a quick one-shot, or a chance to try out a new system, I’ll bring the energy, structure, and flexibility to make it fun. Let’s roll some dice and see where the story takes us!

Creating your character
Those feeling confident to bring along a character should absolutely do so. Otherwise we can spend some time creating your character on one of dungeons and dragons biggest (& Free) platforms, DnDBeyond. Any characters made for the session should use resources from the official sourcebooks and follow the 2014 rules where possible. Attributes can be allocated though any of the following methods, Standard Array, Point Buy or Rolled (4d6 dropping the result on the lowest die)
Our party, currently consisting of a Monk and a Wizard/Cleric, have investigated a couple of mysterious occurrences for the Candlekeep sages and now must return to the citidel of knowledge to inform them of their latest findings, books which were used to turn a shape shifting aberration into cleaver counterfeits. Returning at level three, our characters leave Baldurs Gate, south towards Candlekeep Library.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will gather using Discord and any dice rolling would be done through DnDBeyond, both of which will require a free account.
What Brian brings to the table
While I don't try to be a voice actor, I do my best to paint a picture, describing scenes and providing ambient background music where possible. I embrace the Rule of Cool, allowing for interesting resolutions to the games challenges (Within Reason).
Homebrew rules
While this game will follow 2014 rules, there are table rules such as, using a bonus action to take a potion and rolling a natural 20 on any challenge guarantees inspiration to be used at your leisure. Inspiration can also be granted to those who display strong teamwork and in circumstances the character pulls off an amazing feat.

How Brian creates a safe table
Before we begin a link will be provided to a form to confirm if there are any "No-go" topics and if there are any topics that are less sensitive which you are afraid may come up, this way we can spend minimum time on uncomfortable subjects. During play a simple X, N or O can be sent to me to advise if (X) You are uncomfortable with how the story has went, we can then revise the most recent actions. (N) We are getting close to an X subject, we may skip over the reaction to the most recent move or find another way to resolve it and (O) you may not be uncomfortable but out of concern for others at the table we would check everyone's comfort level before we proceed. As we end the session, we will take a few minutes to unwind and discuss how it went, allowing feedback to be transferred in an open conversation.
