About the adventure

Being the new folks in town is never easy. And now metal monstrosities threaten to level the very town you just arrived in. Isn’t that just your type of luck? 🤠Join a community of misfits and mavericks. 🤸🏾‍♀️Make new friends. Make new rivals, too. 🤖Fight colossal renegade machines. 🏜️Brave the desert frontier. OVERVIEW The March of Intellect is a campaign that mixes themes of fantasy, steampunk and the western movie genre. It is a story about finding your place in a community of loveable misfits. It is also a story about epic battles with machine monstrosities. Between games of high octane action there will be plenty of room for levity, romance and plain old silliness. The March of Intellect is based on the “Colossus of the Drylands” Daggerheart campaign frame. HIGHLIGHTS ✨Learn to play. New system? No problem! I am a patient and passionate teacher. ✨Friendly to all LGBTQ+. Unwelcoming to bigots of all stripes. ✨Diverse cast of NPCs, all uniquely voiced. ✨Immersive atmosphere enhanced by background illustrations and music. ✨Human art by real people. No generative AI in sight. WORLD-BUILDING Magic makes the buck go ‘round. It hasn’t always been this way. There was a time before magic, an age of steam and steel. A time, that for centuries was only remembered in lore and legend. Recently though, reports have reached the capital, reports of strange, monstrous machines that stalk the realm’s desert frontier. Metal colossi levelled entire outposts and they are encroaching on the heartland. People call it ‘The March of Intellect’. Where are the machines coming from? Who made them and for what purpose? Who could even stop them? We will play to find out. The world is not written, we’ll write it together. GAME STYLE ✨ Player-driven sandbox From backstories to in-game actions, the choices you make will shape the course of the story. There is no single right path, there is no predetermined outcome – your choices matter. ✨ Story-focused My goal for this campaign to collaboratively create stories that none of us could have envisioned on our own. In the spirit of Critical Role, interpersonal relations will be at the heart of these stories – even when battling kaiju-sized machines. ✨Tactical-cozy Speaking of epic battles. Boss fights will be a central element of this campaign. These fight though, will require team-work, ingenuity and puzzle-solving more than tactical prowess or mastery of game mechanics.

Character creation

Creating your character

You will create characters prior to session zero in coordination with me, the GM. I will help with character creation as needed. Session 0, will then focus on party relations. Characters know each other at the beginning of the campaign. You can create your character on any platform you like (Demiplane, Heart of Daggers, plain old paper or pdf). You can choose from all the core rulebook character options as well as from official playtest material. I am open for third-party content. In Daggerheart your characters are more than just a collection of mechanical traits and feats. They have complex personalities. They have a history that ties them to the world. They have relations to other player and non-player characters alike. All of these affect gameplay – and the role of the dice. Please be aware, that this is not a game for murder-hobos or for big egos who try to dominate the conversation. At my tables, roleplaying is a team sport. It is also not a game for people who want to act out their fantasies of racism or sexism.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

“Those of you who haven’t played with Alchemy before: it is so cinematic, it is so moody, it is so cool.” – Spencer Stark, Daggerheart creator We'll be using alchemyrpg.com/ Guidance for Daggerheart character creation: youtube.com/watch?v=s8gHI8MIMDI Character creation tools (optional): heartofdaggers.com/characters/ demiplane.com You will need a free account on Alchemy.com. I recommend downloading the desktop app. A browser version is also available. OPTIONAL To get a sense for the mood of this setting, you may also read the "Colossus of the Drylands" campaign frame in the core rulebook. Anything else you'll need to know will be explained during session zero. Communication between sessions will take place in Discord.

What Peter Sapperlot brings to the table

⭕Session Zero --> A conversation about safety at the table; --> Learning the rules of the game and testing they in the virtual table top; --> Creating a team of intrepid heroes. 💡Learn-to-play You are new to Daggerheart? I’ll gladly answer all your questions. Daggerheart’s rules are easy to pick up and I am an experienced and patient teacher. Also, in this campaign, I will never have your knowledge of the rules be the limiting factor for your character’s story or development. 🐣 You are new to roleplaying games in general? Hop on in! Daggerheart is easier to learn than D&D, for sure. 🎭Voice Acting I am bringing over a decade of theatre experience to the table. I have fun portraying a diverse cast of characters and bringing them to live with a wide range of voices. ⛱️A Literal Sandbox There will be three pillars of gameplay. 1️⃣ Roleplay-heavy drama in the frontier town that your characters newly call home. 2️⃣ Exploration of the desert landscape surrounding the town. 3️⃣ Climactic confrontations with a machine colossus the size of a small mountain. Wherever you go, whatever you do though, there will never be just a single fixed path to get you to your destination. There is never just the one “right” solution you need to discover or fail to progress. In Daggerheart you can open any door – and have fun with whatever trouble awaits on the other side. 🎇Immersive Atmosphere Focus on the game you want to play. I offer a fully immersive gaming experience in Alchemy VTT. Alchemy covers all our virtual gaming needs in one neat package. It is no longer necessary to switch between different browser windows and maybe get lost in distraction on the way. Helping with the immersion into the theatre of the mind is a selection of background illustrations and ambient music. 🎲🗡️🫀🧪Play Daggerheart on Alchemy before anybody else! Until Daggerheart officially releases on Alchemy, we will be using my custom-made conversion of the rules for the Alchemy client.

Safety

How Peter Sapperlot creates a safe table

The internet is dark and full of terrors. I wish to carve out a tiny enclave of safety and inclusion for all of you at my table. During a Session 0 we will address expectations and wishes for the campaign. We will also determine topics or tropes players do not want to encounter in their stories, so called Lines (hard boundaries) and Veils (topics that can be implied, but should not be spotlighted). During weekly sessions I will maintain an Open Door Policy. There won’t be any hard feelings or explanations needed, should you ever wish to step away from the table – temporarily or permanently. Furthermore, Alchemy offers an X-card feature. Leaving is a measure of last resort. Preferably, players use the X-card to indicate when something in the narrative makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. In the middle of every session, there will be short break for everyone to recharge. Before and after every session there will be short check-in, an opportunity for anyone to share how they are holding up – with regards to the game as well as in real life. As a player, I never liked tables where everybody just dashes away after the curtain falls, like a flock of very nervous birds. Sharing, naturally, always remains optional. As part of that aftercare, I will use Stars&Wishes. At the end of each session, players can award a Star to highlight a moment, other player or NPC. I will then encourage everyone to express a Wish, something they would like to see change in future sessions, or an idea they would like to become part of the shared narrative. I strongly believe in trust as the fundamental pillar of any ttrpg game. Without trust creativity can’t flourish, let alone any collaborative storytelling. Therefore, I will always strive to be a patient teacher, an attentive listener and an inclusive, non-judgemental host.
