About the adventure

Your luck has forsaken you, for you have crossed paths with the God of madness. You may not know of him, but soon, you will know him well. Whether it be because of a game of cards, farting in his general direction, or even an odd look; he believes that you've wronged him. Whatever the case may be, you're now stuck here in his realm. Will you overcome this challenge, or succumb to madness? Realm of the Mad God is a homebrew campaign written by yours truly. It's a somewhat wacky and off the walls campaign, truly befitting the realm in which you find yourself in. This campaign is suitable for both veteran and new players alike. Expect moral quandaries, unique NPCs, and shenanigans aplenty. A standard run of this campaign will take about 30 sessions.

About me

Greetings, salutations, and all other forms of saying hello! I'm known as Andrew, Midgard, Waffle God, and many other names I've picked up throughout my life. I've been playing DnD since early 2021 as a player, and a GM. I joined StartPlaying many moons ago to get away from the "forever DM" curse, so I understand what it's like to be on your end of things. My goal is to provide quality online games that'll entertain everyone at the table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created in the DnD Beyond campaign prior to the first session. You will be provided a template to help build your backstory, but filling it out is not required. The only backstory element I need is what you've done to the Mad God to end up in this realm. I will be available to answer any questions you have and help you create your character if needed. We will be using 2014 5e DnD, starting level will be 3, and we'll be using standard point buy for stats. You may choose a feat to start with, and take the starting gear for your class (change-ups allowed per DM discretion). Characters will have their maximum HP value. However, feats will no longer grant Ability Score Increases (ASIs). Instead, levels 4, 8, and 12 will grant two +1 increases to any ability score of your choice. Levels 6 and 10 will also grant a +1 increase to any ability score of your choice. Whenever you reach a level where you would normally be granted an ASI (4, 8, 12, 16, 19, and 6, 14 for fighters) you will gain a feat. Homebrew, partnered, and 2024 content is not allowed without GM approval. Variant human race, custom lineage race, lucky feat, and the silvery barbs spell are banned.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need three free accounts for this adventure. Firstly, you will need a discord account. Discord provides a great platform to hear your voice clearly. Secondly, you will need a DnD Beyond account. This platform, in my opinion, provides the most organized character sheets geared towards new players. Lastly, you will need an account on Roll20. On this website, you will be able to see maps during combat encounters and various images throughout the sessions.

What Andrew, God of Waffles brings to the table

I like to do voices for my characters, and utilize ambient music to set the atmosphere. My plethora of content on DnD beyond is also available for your usage, and if you have an idea, I may even add it into my game as homebrew. I like to strike a balance in combat where encounters are fun, but still challenging enough to be exciting. Combat will typically occur on a map. That way you will be able to see the whole layout of the battlefield, and have tools to measure distance and area of effect spells.
