About the adventure

Welcome to Magic 101: A Study in Spellcraft, a light-hearted, character-focused campaign set within the halls of Strixhaven University: the multiverse’s premier academy for magical study (and occasional magical disasters). Between lectures and late-night duels, you’ll discover that surviving freshman year might be the hardest spell of all. At Strixhaven, you’ll attend classes, join clubs, take part-time jobs, and navigate the enchanted chaos of campus life. Expect exploding experiments, rival study groups, suspiciously sentient textbooks, and professors whose patience wears thinner than parchment. Exams, relationships, and extracurriculars all matter here because every choice you make earns you allies, enemies, or that one professor who now owes you detention. The tone of play mixes whimsical slice-of-life adventure with coming-of-age fantasy. You’ll explore friendships, rivalries, and the little sparks of magic that make every college story unforgettable. Combat happens when it fits the story, but creativity, clever thinking, and good-natured chaos are what keep the dice (and the drama) rolling. This game welcomes new and experienced players alike—whether you’re a first-time student of D&D or a seasoned spell-slinger looking for something fresh. If you enjoy roleplay, character growth, and laughing your way through magical mayhem, sharpen your quill, grab your favorite mug of caffeine, and enroll today. Class is in session!

About me

Old-taku of a thousand fandoms. Voice actor in my own head. Occasional cosplay chaos gremlin. I run character-driven, emotionally layered tabletop games with a strong focus on story, tension, and player agency. Whether we’re in a magical academy, a cursed valley, or a small supernatural town, I care about two things: investment and consequence. I love complicated NPCs, relationship dynamics, long-form arcs and secrets that actually matter. My tables balance levity with weight. There will be laughter. There will also be moments that hit hard. I prioritize safety tools, clear expectations, and collaborative storytelling. You’ll always know what kind of game you’re signing up for. If you’re looking for a game that treats character choices seriously and rewards emotional investment, you’ll fit right in. Nice to meet you! https://organizedkaos.co/

Character creation

Creating your character

The University can teach you many things, but not who you are. That part, dear student, is entirely up to you. 📘 Starting Level: 1 Every scholar begins somewhere — nervous, bright-eyed, and already in over their head. Your first semester will test your mind, your mettle, and your ability to survive cafeteria food. 🧮 Stats: Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) Simplicity keeps the faculty from arguing over curve adjustments and the cosmos from playing favorites. 🪄 Platform: D&D Beyond Once enrolled, you’ll receive a campaign link to create and manage your character directly in D&D Beyond. Don’t worry, the Registrar will handle the paperwork. 📚 Books & Sources All official 5e content is welcome. If it’s in an official D&D book, it’s fair game with a few exceptions: ❌ No Grim Hollow or Cthulhu Mythos (a bit too dark for campus life). ❌ No Rick & Morty, Minecraft, or parody content. The Dean frowns upon unsupervised experiments. ✍️ Backstory Bonus Submit your backstory before or at Session 0 to earn one Uncommon magic item. A keepsake from your life before Strixhaven, or perhaps a gift from a mentor who saw your potential. Consider it an academic grant for creativity.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before your first day at Strixhaven University, make sure you’ve completed your orientation checklist. The faculty appreciate students who arrive with their quills, scrolls, and devices properly attuned. 🗣️ Create a Discord Account - This is the voice of the classroom and the heart of our community. All sessions take place through voice chat in our shared guild server. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive a private invite and channel access. 📘 Create a D&D Beyond Account - Characters are created and managed here. After your seat is confirmed, you’ll receive a link to the campaign. Don’t worry, you won’t need to purchase any additional content; the library already has everything you need. 🧭 Foundry VTT Access - You do not need to buy a Foundry license. You’ll receive login credentials for our hosted game environment before your first session. Consider it your very own pocket dimension for learning. ✨ Final Preparations - Find a quiet space, make sure your mic works, and bring your curiosity (and caffeine). The professors may be patient, but the magical experiments rarely are.

What Kysa brings to the table

This is a dual-DM production: part magical theatre, part collegiate comedy of errors where every roll, quip, and critical success finds its place in the story. 🗺️ High-Quality Maps & Visual Flourish - Strixhaven is alive. Hallways rearrange, books whisper answers, and enchanted quills float through the air mid-lecture. Expect detailed, animated maps and visuals that make the campus feel like it’s breathing magic. 🎧 Curated Soundscapes & Campus Vibes - Each scene has its own rhythm: lo-fi study beats for late-night cram sessions, elemental fanfares for spell duels, and gentle ambient music for those “we should not have opened that door” moments. ⚖️ Rule of Cool (with Campus Consequences) - If you’ve set yourself up for something epic… or mildly disastrous, the faculty might just let you bend the rules of magic. But if you want to twist fate, you’ll owe the universe something in return: a favor, a rumor, or maybe a new nickname you’ll never live down. 🎬 Cinematic Narration, Real Stakes - Expect atmosphere, emotion, and choices that carry weight, sometimes academic, sometimes personal. You can charm, argue, improvise, or flunk with style, but everything you do will leave a mark on campus history. We play with style, heart, and humor. You bring your story to life; I make sure Strixhaven remembers it.

Homebrew rules

Strixhaven’s curriculum is built on centuries of magical study… and a few unofficial “adjustments” from faculty and students alike. Our table uses light homebrew rules to keep the story fast, cinematic, and delightfully chaotic. 🧪 Potion Drinking - You can drink a potion as a bonus action if you already have it in hand. Consider it “efficient multitasking” (the Dean of Quandrix approves). 🧷 Backstory Boon - Submit your backstory before or at Session 0 and receive one Uncommon magic item: a trinket, heirloom, or invention tied to your past. Call it an early academic grant for creativity. ✨ Rule of Cool (with Academic Consequences) - Epic, cinematic ideas may succeed beyond the dice, but the universe keeps score. Pull off something spectacular, and you might owe a favor, earn a rival, or inspire a new campus rumor that refuses to die. 🗣️ Descriptive Advantage - Vivid, in-character roleplay and clever narration may earn advantage on minor or social checks. Professors love confidence. So do the crowd. 💀 Cinematic Fails (Optional) - When you hit zero HP, you may give a dramatic monologue, pun, or plea before rolling your death save. You’d be surprised how often passion (or panic) persuades fate to curve the grade. Everything else follows standard 5e rules, except when the story or the Dean of Chaos decides otherwise.

Safety

How Kysa creates a safe table

Strixhaven is full of spellcraft, emotion, and the occasional fireball gone wrong — but at our table, everyone’s safety and comfort come first. We play boldly, but we always play kindly. 🎴 Safety Signals - We use a simple card system during sessions to keep communication clear and judgment-free: 🟥 Stop – Hard stop. We pause the scene immediately. 🟧 Slow Down – Shift tone, fade to black, or soften the focus. 🟨 Back Up – Rewind and retell a moment differently. 🟩 Say That Again, Please – Someone wasn’t heard or needs clarification; let’s reset and make sure everyone’s on the same page. These can be used verbally, in chat, or with emojis; no explanation required. 🕯️ Session 0: Orientation Day - Before the first game, we’ll: Discuss Lines & Veils (topics to avoid or fade out) Set comfort levels around romance, fear, and tone Clarify player goals and expectations Review safety signals and after-session check-ins 🌙 Aftercare - Each session ends with a short debrief: a chance to breathe, laugh, and leave the tension in the story where it belongs. Players can always message privately afterward for extra space or adjustments. The magic might test your courage, but it will never test your safety. At this table, consent is canon. ✨
