About the adventure

The world ended five years ago. The gods vanished, the chosen ones fell, and now everything important is broken—divine magic, government, even reliable weather. But someone has to keep the lights on, bury the dead, and fight off the weirder stuff clawing up through the cracks. That someone… is unfortunately you. Last Picks of the Apocalypse is a roleplay-focused homebrew D&D campaign where you play underdogs, oddballs, and absolute weirdos who were never meant to be heroes. You’ll start at Level 1 with a twist: your dump stat becomes your class’s primary ability score. That barbarian with a Strength of 8? Still raging. The bard with no Charisma? Singing her heart out anyway. You didn’t sign up to save the world—but you’re the only ones left who haven’t wandered off, died, or joined a cult. Expect broken gods, haunted relics, absurd bureaucracy, reluctant teamwork, and divine intervention that arrives exactly when it’s least helpful. New players are welcome. Being bad at your job is the point. Above all, Last Picks is about playing the oddballs who got left behind and finding surprising ways to win. If that sounds like you, you’re already ready.

About me

Hey! I’m Mike — a laid-back UK-based DM (GMT) who loves wild ideas, emotional moments, and just the right amount of chaos. Like a lot of folks, I got into D&D during the pandemic by binging actual play shows — and I’ve been hooked ever since. Now I run games where storytelling leads the way, the dice add drama, and the players shape everything that happens next. I run story-first one-shots and mini-campaigns packed with big character moments, meaningful choices, and plenty of space for nonsense (the good kind). My style is all about collaboration — you bring the weird ideas, I’ll try and help make them epic. My tables are beginner-friendly, low-pressure, and perfect for players who care more about having fun than memorizing rules. Whether you’re into goofy antics, heartfelt arcs, or both, I’ve got you covered. New to D&D? Casual player who just wants a good time? You’re welcome at my table. Bring your backstory, your boldest ideas, and let’s build something unforgettable together. Currently I have 8 campaigns running and looking forward to adding another 2 to the rotation. If you've any questions at all don't hesitate to drop me a message!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation on Easy Mode! We’re starting at Level 1 with the option to grow over time. I’ll guide you through making a character that fits our weird, post-apocalyptic world. You can: 1. Choose a pre-generated character and start playing right away. 2. Join a Session Zero where I help you build your own hero step by step. 3. Make a custom character on your own using official D&D options—I’ll provide setting tips and suggestions if you’d like them. Don’t worry about getting it “right”—just build someone fun to play. And don't try to be the best. The heroes have all gone and got themselves killed by trying that nonsense....

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🎲 What You’ll Need 1. A free D&D Beyond account – This is where we’ll make and manage your character. 2. Discord – We'll use voice chat to play. No video required. 3. A stable internet connection – That’s it! No dice, no books needed—I’ve got you covered. *** Before We Begin*** Don’t worry if you’re nervous. Most of us started not knowing what a d20 was. Bring a question, a weird idea, or a character concept. I love helping people bring it to life. You don’t need a deep backstory—but if you have a vibe (e.g. “ex-barista with a magic spoon”), I’ll help fit it into the world.

What Mike brings to the table

I run relaxed, story-rich games that focus on fun, clarity, and collaboration—especially for new or returning players. My goal is to help you feel confident, excited, and fully immersed, whether it’s your first time rolling dice or your hundredth dungeon delve. Here’s what you can expect: 🧑‍🏫 Guided character support – I’ll help you build a character you love or give you a ready-made one so you can jump in and play. 📚 Clear rules and pacing – I use the 2024 Player’s Handbook and explain everything as we go. You won’t be left guessing what your character can do. 🎭 Low pressure roleplay – I'm not a voice actor, and I never pressure players to "perform". You can roleplay at your own comfort level. ⚔️ Tactical but accessible combat – I run fast-paced, turn-based encounters with maps and guidance. You’ll learn positioning, strategy, and team dynamics in a fun way. 🎉 Rule of Cool > Rules as Written – I’ll follow the core rules, but I’m always happy to bend them for clever ideas, cinematic moments, or laughs. Most importantly, I provide a welcoming, judgment-free space where mistakes are part of the fun and learning is celebrated. Bring your curiosity and I’ll handle the rest!

Homebrew rules

homebrew is encouraged as long as it makes sense. lets start with the core rules though, and feed other stuff in when you're comfortable.

Safety

How Mike creates a safe table

Your comfort, safety, and enjoyment are my top priorities. Whether you're brand new to D&D or returning after a break, I aim to make this a welcoming, respectful space for everyone. Here’s how I support that: Session Zero – We’ll start with a relaxed Session Zero to go over character creation, play styles, expectations, and any content boundaries. This is your space to speak up and shape the game to your comfort level. Lines & Veils Form – I’ll send a short, optional Lines and Veils checklist you can fill out privately to flag any topics you’d prefer to avoid or fade to black. Aftercare Check-ins – After intense or emotional scenes, I’ll check in (publicly or privately) to make sure everyone feels okay and supported. Respect and Kindness – I expect all players to be kind, inclusive, and respectful. Bigotry, harassment, or disruptive behavior is never tolerated. We’re here to tell a fun, collaborative story together—and that only works when everyone feels safe being part of it.
