About me

Hello. My name is Kevin and I love being a GM! I have been playing and running games for most of my life. I started with Advanced D&D 2nd Edition when I was in middle school. I read all the books my brother owned and would try to run games for my friends and family. I later picked up HeroQuest when it came out and played for years homebrewing my own content and monsters and treasures. Once I was a bit older I picked up the 3rd Edition of D&D and played for years until I took a break. Came back into running games again when Fifth Edition came out. I’ve been running games practically every week since. Other than Dungeons and Dragons I’m a big fan of Arkham Horror, Video Games (Nintendo Fan and big RPG fan) and I’ve been playing Magic the Gathering since 1995. Roleplaying games and GMing have been such a big part of my life. Allowing me to be more creative and helped me become more social. My goal is to sit down with everyone I know and get them to play one time because I think these games are for everyone. Thanks for reading!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters during session zero after going over the introductions and basics. All characters will be created on DND Beyond so that I will be able to see the character sheets and help during the character creation process as needed. I like to use the Point Buy System We will be starting at Level 1 Players can create characters using the following books -2024 Players Handbook -The Crooked Moon Player Book 1 Player Options -I will also allow most books that were published officially by Wizards of the Coast if there is an option that hasn't been revised for the 2024 edition.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

What you will need: 1. A Discord account 2. A DND Beyond Account 3. A functioning microphone That is it! I try to keep it as simple as possible.

What GM Kevin brings to the table

I am not a great voice actor, but will often attempt character voices. I do like to use ambient music, but the players will be able to control the volume and disable it if they prefer. I stick to the rules as written/intended, but will let things that are cool just happen. Feeling cool is kind of why we play. I don't enjoy bogging down games with pointless travel or shopping episodes. I do enjoy combat, but often throw encounters which combat could be avoided. I play as tactically as I feel the table can handle. I have some groups who love harder battles and others who just want it to be a little easier. There is nothing wrong with either style or player. The goal is for everyone to have a good time. Plenty of Role Play opportunities and the occasional puzzles.

Homebrew rules

I don't use many homebrew rules, but I do enjoy modified critical hits. Critical hits in my game are roll the damage dice, add your modifier if applicable and then add the maximum damage of all dice. Example. A fighter making a Shortsword attack would roll 1d6 + Strength/Dex Modifier and then add the maximum damage the dice could have rolled which would be 6.

Safety

How GM Kevin creates a safe table

I will send out a link to my Lines and Veils for how I run content. During Session Zero I will follow up with giving players an opportunity to share any other types of content that they would not want to experience. This is an open an honest expression and will be taken very seriously. This also allows players to know how the other players may feel about certain topics. After each session, I will personally hang around for a bit to ask how everything went and make sure everyone feels okay. I will also ask if they enjoyed the session. This is another chance and opportunity for players to open up about things they are enjoying or perhaps content they didn't like. I will also always remind players that if they wish to speak with me outside of the game to discuss anything that happened in game, they are always more than welcome.
