About the adventure

THOOM. The ground shakes as the *thing* lumbers forward. Concentric ripples splash in the water barrels. You've been hearing it getting louder for half an hour. You see it on the horizon, advancing out of the setting sun. It's hard to see any detail. THOOM. Outriders said it was huge, and you believed them, but stories and seeing in person are two different things. It's not a walking building. It *dwarfs* every building in town, even the bank's tower. It turns its head and opens its jaw. The sky dims as it belches a spiky black arc of witchfire. The baron's manor bursts into flame. A second later you hear it, crackBANG like thunder when the lighting is altogether too close. It steps toward you again. THOOM. Venchie drops prone in the acrid dust and braces his rifle. He starts firing rhythmically. At this distance it's probably doing nothing, but you can't tell him not to try. THOOM. Okay. No more watching. Like it or not, it's time to put the plan into action. You don't like it, but do you have a choice? This had better work. --- 🎇 I'd love to chat with you! Please send me a message if you have any questions, or might be interested if the game was scheduled at a different time or day. 🎆 I'm a collaborative GM. There's plenty of stuff in my plans for this game that's easy to change to align with where YOU want to go. 🎇 No experience necessary, happy to teach. 🌈 You can be you. --- This used to be a quiet little town. Not peaceful, exactly, but uneventful, an outpost on a little-used trade route. That was before the eruption of essence shards, or whatever they are. Now once-ordinary people are manifesting strange magical powers, reckless and lucky folk are pulling inexplicable treasures from the crystal caves, and ruthless outsiders are descending in gangs, chasing the loot and power. You're caught in the middle of a gold rush. And then the mountainous earthquake beast lumbers out of Godfall Canyon, coming for you. This will be a mini-campaign of 6–8 sessions, with an option to continue.

About me

I started GMing in the 80s when I got hold of the D&D red box Basic Set. I've played and run dozens of different systems since then, including AD&D, GURPS, Call of Cthulhu, Traveller, Shadowrun, Sorcerer, Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, Blades in the Dark, Uncharted Worlds, Masks, and Daggerheart. I'm a big of light and flexible PbtA-style rules, but am by no means a narrativist purist. Swashbuckling adventure is fun! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️LBGTQ+-friendly, 🎉new-player-supportive.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can bring a standard Daggerheart level 1 character with no experience, or I can provide a pregenerated character for you. Experiences and Background require collaboration with the GM, which we can do ahead of time or at the top of session 1. Connections will be done during session 1. Characters can be kept on Demiplane, Owlbear, or in Google Drive, your preference.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need: 🎆 Free Discord account. You'll get a link to join the campaign server when you register for the game. 🎇 Free Owlbear Rodeo account. I'll send the link to join the game rooms on the day of the game. 🎆 Free Google Drive account, able to view the campaign folder. 🎇 A quiet place to play, where you will hopefully not be interrupted during the game 🎆 Positive attitude and creativity on speed-dial!

What Colin brings to the table

I bring swashbuckling action and vivid description, with a gallery of images of important characters and locations. Rules are great to help everybody understand what actions are possible and what are not, but I also believe that keeping the game moving quickly is more important that following rules to the letter. Players are the stars at my table: I'm a facilitator, not a prima donna. I do **not** do detailed tactical combat. We will never measure ranges on a grid. I will do pretty battlemaps when there's a big combat coming up, but if you guys go off script I'm perfectly happy to throw down four sketched lines and a few circles and triangles, call it a map, and we roll with it. I never let the game stop just because you want to do something unexpected. I’d love to be great at doing voices, but let’s face it, I can never do the same accent twice.

Homebrew rules

None. If you want to use Void content it's probably fine, but talk to me first.

How Colin creates a safe table

I distribute a Lines & Veils / Content Consent form ahead of time. You are given permission to silence/step away from the game at any time if something unexpected comes up, and we will pause and reconsider. There is a debrief/Stars & Wishes at the end of every session.
