About the adventure

In the bustling city of Eldermoor, an unsettling series of murders has left the local lords and city watch baffled. The once-thriving metropolis now lives in the shadow of fear, as whispers of a hidden menace spread through its cobblestone streets and fog-laden alleys. The party is summoned to aid in the investigation, tasked with uncovering the truth behind these mysterious deaths. As they delve deeper into the city's secrets, they will navigate a labyrinth of intrigue and deception, encountering allies and adversaries alike. Unbeknownst to them, a powerful force lurks in the shadows, growing stronger with each passing day. The fate of Eldermoor hangs in the balance, and only by piecing together the clues can the adventurers hope to unmask the hidden threat and restore peace to the city.

About me

I’ve been playing Dungeons & Dragons since 1990, with experience in 1st, 2nd, 3.0, 3.5, and now 5th edition. Out of all that time, I’ve spent over 20 years as a DM, and while I’m still new-ish to the online DM world, I bring a lifetime of passion and storytelling to the table. I love a good balance of roleplay and combat, and I’m flexible with both experience-based and milestone leveling. I currently use Discord and D&D Beyond, along with the VTT, for communication and character management. As a parent of young children, I may occasionally need a quick 2–5 minute break during sessions to check on them—thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Most importantly, I believe in creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for all players. I’m proudly pro-LGBTQ+, and I won’t tolerate any form of hateful or offensive behavior at my table. This is a second job for me—but also a true passion. I love weaving immersive worlds where players can embark on unforgettable journeys. Happy adventuring, and may your dice roll true!

Character creation

Creating your character

1. Starting Level All characters begin at Level 1. You are ordinary people drawn into extraordinary circumstances — investigators, mercenaries, scholars, priests, or rogues of the city’s underbelly. 2. Ability Scores Roll for stats using 4d6, drop the lowest, and assign as desired. (For those who prefer stability, you may use point buy instead — 27 points.) 3. Available Races All standard races from the Player’s Handbook are allowed, but consider those that fit the gothic, fog-shrouded tone of Eldermoor. Humans, Half-elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Tieflings, and Elves are most common within the city walls. More exotic races exist but draw attention — perfect for those who want to stand out or have mysterious origins. 5. Starting Equipment Use your class or background starting equipment. However, money is tight in Eldermoor — gold is halved from the normal starting amount. The city thrives on trade, favors, and information rather than wealth.

What SpiritualDM82 brings to the table

Players can expect a dark, story-driven campaign filled with mystery, moral tension, and unsettling discoveries. My focus is on deep roleplay, immersive storytelling, and a living world that reacts to your actions. Every choice has weight, and every clue brings you closer to the truth — or the monster’s waiting claws. I use character voices and vivid descriptive narration to make Eldermoor feel alive — from the creak of lantern-lit streets to the whispered rumors in smoky taverns. Combat will be tactical and intense, designed to challenge both strategy and teamwork, but always in service to the story rather than overshadowing it. I favor the Rule of Cool when it enhances drama or creativity, while keeping enough structure to maintain tension and fairness. My goal is to give players a gothic mystery where your characters’ choices shape the city’s fate, and where courage and curiosity matter just as much as combat skill.

How SpiritualDM82 creates a safe table

Before the campaign begins, we’ll have a Session 0 to go over expectations, tone, and player comfort. This will include reviewing Lines & Veils (content boundaries), establishing what themes are off-limits, and identifying what topics players would like handled with care. Eldermoor is a dark, gothic setting — but no story element ever outweighs player comfort. I use X, N, and O safety tools digitally throughout play (via chat or quick check-ins) to ensure everyone feels safe and respected. Players can message me privately at any time if something crosses a boundary or feels uncomfortable. Communication is key, and feedback is always welcome — both during and after sessions. After intense or emotional moments, we’ll take time for aftercare — a brief cooldown to check in, decompress, and separate the heavy story elements from real-life emotions. I encourage a supportive table culture where empathy and respect guide every session. My priority is creating an environment where players feel safe, heard, and free to explore a dark and immersive story without ever feeling unsafe outside of character.
