About the adventure

Ezra is collapsing. Nearly half the continent has been devoured by the Rift, a ravenous tear between planes that grows larger every month. Scholars warn the world has less than a decade left before it is consumed entirely. The skies above are crowded with fleets of alien vessels —some seeking to save Ezra, others to exploit its ruin. This campaign is a sandbox epic from levels 5–20, beginning with the imminent destruction of Ezra and carrying into the vast expanse of Wildspace. You and your crew will claim a ship and carve your place in a multiverse on the brink. Expect spacefaring intrigue, political maneuvering, and escalating conflict as rival factions battle over the Rift and the future of your world. Every choice matters. Will you rally allies and attempt the impossible—rescuing Ezra from destruction? Will you strike bargains with syndicates and empires to profit from the collapse? Or will you abandon the doomed world entirely and chart a new destiny among the stars? ---- This is a game for players who want: Sandbox storytelling where actions reshape the map. High-stakes politics that make diplomacy as deadly as battle. Ship-to-ship combat and daring boarding actions. Exploration of strange worlds and Rift-born anomalies. Collaborative storytelling that blends dark themes with moments of triumph and discovery. ---- The Rift consumes Ezra. The factions circle. The fate of your world—and perhaps the multiverse—rests in the hands of your crew.

About me

I'm currently a House DM at The Kobold Lounge, where I run 3 homebrew campaigns for adults, as well as an introductory game for kids and another for teens. I started with a weekly game at my house. Shortly after I learned to play, I had to move. To keep up with my new hobby, I found and joined ahome game that was posted online. It was a terrible experience. Nobody at the table was having fun except for the DM, who delighted in playing against his party. His players looked and sounded bored, almost miserable; I never went back. Instead, I decided to start my own game with one goal: to make sure everyone has fun! -- If money is an obstacle, please DM me. I care more about us having fun than making money. I put a lot of effort into becoming the DM I am today, I make immersive, creative content that literally over a hundred players have loved & that's why I'm here. I'd like to make a living doing this, but I care about my players & that's never going to change.--- I started running my first homebrew D&D campaign in 2016. Since then I've engaged in collaborative storytelling with a ton of amazing players. I enjoy being a Sandbox DM, and I love players with unique ideas they want to try. My tables, physical and virtual, are the place to try out that crazy character idea or homebrewed subclass. I want to DM on StartPlaying to reach a wide player base, bring people together to have a blast, and provide opportunities for players everywhere to participate in my games.

Character creation

Creating your character

There will be time set aside for character creation during session 0. If you want to get started before that, we'll use rolled stats. Rolling 4d6, dropping the lowest and rerolling ALL 1's. We'll be starting at level 5. Any official or partnered content is fair game. I'll likely approve any balanced homebrew, I just need to look it over before signing off.

What DM Nug Gnome brings to the table

🎲 What I Provide My Players I bring you a game where politics, peril, and discovery collide in the shadow of a dying world. Ezra is crumbling into the Rift, and the stars above are crowded with fleets, merchants, and opportunists all vying to decide its fate. Expect deep, immersive roleplay as I breathe life into ambitious admirals, ruthless syndicates, desperate refugees, and alien envoys. These NPCs won’t be flat archetypes—they’ll be complex, conflicted, and capable of reshaping the galaxy with a single deal, betrayal, or alliance. In Ezra’s Rift: Wildspace Rising, the setting itself is a character: a wounded planet bleeding into Wildspace, ports filled with refugees, and rift-born anomalies that can twist time, space, and souls. Whether you’re staring down an Illithid envoy across a negotiation table, cutting through Neogi slaver ships in a desperate skirmish, or navigating the fragile politics of an Elven blockade, the world will feel alive, textured, and merciless. When it comes to combat, expect battles that matter. Boarding actions, ship-to-ship exchanges, and ground skirmishes will be tactical and dangerous. Enemies use their ships, their factions, and their environment against you, forcing creative play and decisive thinking. Each encounter carries weight—whether it’s the defense of a refugee fleet, the storming of a syndicate outpost, or the survival of your own ship. And when the stars align for it? I live by the Rule of Cool. If you want to swing across rigging into an enemy flagship, hurl a Rift-warped relic like a grenade, or talk down an armada with one perfect speech, I’ll find a way to make it sing. Clever gambits and cinematic heroics are always rewarded. If you’re looking for a campaign that mixes political intrigue, tactical combat, and high-stakes storytelling in a living multiverse where your choices matter, this is your launch point. The Rift consumes Ezra. Factions circle. The question isn’t if the world will change—it’s whether you’ll change it in time.

Homebrew rules

We'll go over these in detail but the main homebrew rules I implement are: Player awarded inspiration, modified crit success and fail charts for attacks, a modified death and dismemberment system with lingering injuries, potion efficacy table, and mechanics for just about any wacky idea you want to try
