About the adventure

Halcyon City University (HCU) should be a place of growth, promise, and discovery… but right now, the campus is still reeling from tragedy. Just one month ago, a sudden accident claimed the lives of the entire football team, leaving the school, the city, and its students shaken. In the midst of grief and unanswered questions, new stories are beginning to unfold. This is a game about young heroes in college, aged 18–22, trying to balance the chaos of campus life with the responsibility of protecting their community. You’ll attend classes, make friends, navigate rivalries, and discover who you are… all while suiting up to face villains, uncover conspiracies, and protect HCU from new threats. It’s equal parts superhero action and slice-of-life drama, with mystery at its core. Unlike traditional Masks games, this campaign won’t follow the published canon; instead, we’ll be building our own narrative. The focus will be on storytelling and character development, exploring how your heroes grow, change, and define themselves in the shadow of tragedy. Expect roleplay-heavy scenes, collaborative storytelling, and moments of both high-octane action and quiet introspection. This game is perfect for players who enjoy narrative-driven roleplay, young adult drama, and the mix of excitement and vulnerability that comes with playing teenage (and in this case, college-age) superheroes. Whether you’re new to Masks or a returning fan, if you want to tell a story where every choice matters, this table is for you.

About me

I’m a passionate Game Master with a deep love for storytelling, immersive roleplay, and cinematic gameplay. I’ve been running tabletop RPGs for several years, with a focus on Dungeons & Dragons 5E, Cyberpunk RED and more recently diving into sci-fi systems like Starfinder. I specialise in crafting homebrew adventures with strong narrative arcs, dynamic NPCs, and player-driven choices that shape the world. My background includes years of experience in creative project management, which I now pour into building engaging campaigns, and memorable one-shots. Whether you’re a brand new player or a seasoned veteran, my goal is to create a fun, inclusive, and welcoming table where everyone gets a chance to shine. I love blending roleplay with tactical encounters, mystery, and moments of levity, and I’ll always make sure your character has a place in the story. Let’s roll some dice and tell an epic story together!

Character creation

Creating your character

We’ll be using the Masks: A New Generation playbooks to create your characters. Each playbook represents a unique heroic archetype; the Legacy, the Outsider, the Nova, and so on, giving you both powers and story arcs to explore. Don’t worry about needing “the perfect build”… this game is all about storytelling, not number-crunching. Your heroes will be college students at HCU, ages 18–22. That means you’ll not only define your powers and playbook, but also: • What are you studying? (Or are you struggling to stay in school?) • What part of campus life draws you in: athletics, the arts, clubs, activism? • How has the recent tragedy touched you, and what do you hope to discover moving forward? We’ll create characters together to establish team dynamics, relationships, and how your heroes connect to both HCU and the wider city. Masks is a collaborative game; your backstories, playbook choices, and team connections will directly shape the story we tell. If you’re brand new to Masks, no problem! I’ll guide you step by step through picking a playbook, choosing moves, and shaping your hero into someone who feels fun to play and tied into the world.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This game will be played entirely through the Tasty Games Discord Server, which hosts a vibrant community of play-by-post gamers. Here’s what you’ll need to do before we start: 1. Have a Discord account. If you don’t already, you can sign up for free at discord.com. 2. Join the Tasty Games server. I’ll provide you with an invite link once you sign up for the game. 3. Familiarize yourself with play-by-post. No experience required. I’ll walk you through how it works, but it helps to know we’ll be telling the story one post at a time, rather than in live voice or video. 4. Review the playbooks. If you don’t own Masks: A New Generation, don’t worry, I’ll share the options you’ll need to make your character. 5. Bring your creativity. This is a narrative-focused game, so come ready to dive into roleplay, character drama, and collaborative storytelling. That’s it! No software downloads, virtual tabletops, or fancy tech required, just Discord, your imagination, and a willingness to tell a story together.

What KingTasty (Elliot) brings to the table

My GM style is collaborative and story-driven. Masks is all about who you are becoming as a hero, and I’ll always prioritize your characters’ choices, emotions, and growth over rigid rules. Expect a balance of superhero action, campus drama, and mystery, with the spotlight shifting often so every character gets their moments to shine. Because this is play-by-post, you won’t hear me doing voices or background music… instead, I use descriptive writing and scene-setting to create atmosphere. Think of it like building a comic book together: panel by panel, dialogue by dialogue. I embrace the Rule of Cool. If you have an idea that’s bold, dramatic, and makes sense for your character, I’ll encourage it, even if it means bending mechanics. That said, I’ll keep the core Masks rules intact, so you’ll always know how to engage with the system and what your moves mean in the fiction. Combat here isn’t tactical or map-based; it’s cinematic. Expect fights to play out like comic book splash pages: dynamic, fast-moving, and focused on emotional stakes just as much as physical ones. Most importantly, I aim to create a welcoming, safe space where everyone feels comfortable roleplaying and collaborating. Your creativity drives the story, and my job is to set the stage, provide the twists, and help your heroes’ journey feel meaningful.
