About the adventure

Are the odds in your favor? It has been 28 years since the Dark Days and the fall of District 13, but the Capitol never forgets. Under the all-seeing eye of up-and-coming head Gamemaker Coriolanus Snow, Panem will take a brand new approach to the gory spectacle of the Hunger Games in the first ever Quarter Quell, where seasoned victors, career tributes, and unlucky newcomers will square off and shed blood on the 25th anniversary of these hallowed games. It promises to be a show unlike ever before seen on Panem’s stage. This year, four tributes will be drawn from each district in recognition of the Dark Days and the Peacemakers’ sacrifice, and that is not all: for the first time ever, each district must vote for their Tributes in the Reaping. How it Works - Each District has two built in NPC Tributes, 1 male and 1 female (This leaves 2 open slots for Tributes remaining) - Each District will also have a pre-determined Mentor, Stylist, and Team If one of these NPCs strikes your fancy, we can discuss taking ownership of one of them, instead - The Games will require Commentators — historically, Volumnia Gaul and Lucky Flickerman have the honors, but who’s to say what really happened? -The Tributes will need help once they’re in the arena — if you want to play a Spectator, there will be a channel for observing the Games. -Biweekly via Discord there will be an in-character Live Event featuring a traditional part of the Hunger Games, all the way from the Reaping to the starting countdown to the Games themselves. They’ll be hosted in character by your guide to the games, year 20 Victor Neutronne Curie.

About me

Hi! I’m Abadonne Darlington D’Artagnan Kilbride, IV and I would absolutely love to run a game for you. I’m a creature of myth, Gorgon of old, TTRPG streamer, writer, creator, and Founder at Exquisite Corpse Presents: A Home For Unusual Stories . In the effort to become the confessional poet of tabletop role playing I write, produce, and run Say a Prayer for California: Sister Cities, a post-apocalyptic dystopian DnD 5e homebrew, and La Naissance D'Une Reine, a Thirsty Sword Lesbians homebrew set in the years following the death of King Arthur. I’m a founding cast member of Blackness and Dragons and has appeared on Going Critical RPG as Loset Lee, Lore Everlasting as Petra Pellucid and Siddalee Ware, and on the fully-crowdfunded A Tale of Two Lions hosted by @AnoriandGD. My written work can be found in BeNeverending’s anthology, Anansi’s Tapestry of Lives, and my confessional chapbook Styx River Anthology is available on Bandcamp.

Character creation

Creating your character

Our modified D&D tale begins at Level 3, and where you end up depends on how long you survive! As one of the Tributes of our tale, of course you have some of the makings of a hero in you at the beginning of this adventure, but by the end of it one name will be a legend forever written on the face of Panem. Stories sometimes end abruptly and in a truly unsatisfying fashion. Death is not guaranteed but still very possible when the stakes are this high, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end! If your Tribute goes to the Big Arena in the Sky before their time, roll a new character and rejoin the action as a Stylist, Spectator, Mentor, Peacekeeper of the Districts, or even —gasp— a member of the Capitol’s central government? What to expect

Preparing for the session

Upon joining you’ll receive an invite to the private Bread and Circuses server! Only paid members are invited to participate in Discord roleplay and D&DBeyond VTT arena combat sessions within the world of Bread and Circuses — you’ll need a Discord account and a D&D Beyond account so we can keep track of everyone, too!

What Abadonne brings to the table

I bring a fully fleshed out world and scenario to Bread and Circuses! Some familiar faces will be joined by some not-so/familiar ones, and over the course of several weeks of roleplay and live events we’ll have a Victor to crown for the ages! There will be music, in-character events, memorable NPCs, and dozens of ways to customize your gameplay! As a GM I expect to be treated with the same level of respect I afford my players: communication, punctuality, and honesty go a very long way with me and I’m extremely accommodating, but reserve the right to remove you from play for rule violations, failures to communicate in a reasonable amount of time, and failures to pay. Due to its nature and the level of homebrew involved this game does not feature an open door policy, nor does it implement a three-strike rule.

Safety

How Abadonne creates a safe table

Players can expect to be sent a link to the Monte Cook RPG Lines & Veils document, which we will go over as a group during Session 0. X/N/O cards can be utilized visually over Discord or in chat at any time (for the sake of commonality we will be using the 'Traffic Light' red-yellow-green system, but these terms can be called out or held up with a card in a corresponding color), and this table is an open table so should you need to leave for any reason please feel empowered to do so, with or without explanation. That being said, I invite you to reach out to me personally and express your concerns to see if I can address them at or above the table - my priority as the facilitator of this game is your fun, so please feel free to let me know how I can help you tell the story you want to tell. PLEASE NOTE that the above Content Warnings tagged are listed with regard to anything that *might* come up or perhaps be an element of a YA novel or dystopian tale - our session zero will determine the content warnings specific to your party and your level of comfort. Our session zero will last approximately 2 hours and include safety tools/lines & veils, character creation, discussion of mechanics, and learning about the homebrew world of The Hunger Games and where your characters will fit into it!
