About the adventure

You are a kid in the alternative version of the 80s in Sweden and the summer break has just started. You feel a combination of carelessness and boredom after the end of the school year, but your group of trusted friends is always there to meet in your secret hideout. What adventure awaits you this time? Join an epic adventure filled with mystery in the Four Seasons of Mad Science campaign! Come and play sci-fi mystery scenarios themed around Summer, (Autumn*,) Winter, and Spring. This campaign is ideal for people who are interested in building deep relations between player characters, and like ttrpg’s that are focused around mystery solving. No knowledge of the system is required, as the campaign is meant to introduce the setting and game to the players. Tales from the loop is a roleplaying game about the 80s that never was. You can be sure to find plenty of retro vibes such as cassettes, arcade saloons, and all the nostalgia that come with it, but also gigantic flying magnetic ships along with quirky and ‘slightly’ dysfunctional house robots. The theme of the game can be compared to a mix of E.T. the Goonies, Scoby-Doo with a little of Stranger Things spice. *We will not be playing the original Autumn scenario of the campaign, since personally I think that it is mediocre and I want you to have the best experience I can provide playing TFL. I am considering writing a different one that will still be coherent with the overarching storyline. We will discuss the details on how we will handle Autumn in the campaign during session 0. Either way playing though Summer, Winter and Spring is a banger of an adventure;)

About me

Hey, I am Wojtek and I am currently a master student. I play ttrpgs since I am 8. The games that are enjoyed the most are the ones that rely on the players coming up with creative solutions themselves rather than having a character that has a skill for every possible situation,as I feel that this creates the best memories and greater player engagement. I most often run three kinds of games: - crazy high action, where a fight in which everybody is falling off a skyscraper without a parachute is a casual Monday - deep investigation scenarios where taking notes is necessary to crack all the intricacies of my mystery - or good old dungeons, where you can find a bit of both mystery and action Let me know if any of those games sounds appealing to you:)

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created together during a free session 0. There will be only two restrictions on character creation: -Types of characters cannot be repeated (ex: we cannot have two Weirdos in the group, but we can have a Weirdo and a very weird Troublemaker) -Your kid can be at most 14. The events of the campaign take place over a year, and characters in this game need to be younger than 16 as described in the rulebook. To ensure that all characters stay within the age limit all PCs will start at 14, and might get one year older during the course of the campaign. For everything else we will follow character creation as outlined in the TFL book. If you have any idea to make your own character type, feel free to let me know and we can work together to make the character work:) *For players joining after session zero*: I will ask you to make a character on your own at least one day before the game in which you will join. The same restrictions to character creation will also apply in this case, so you will need to choose a character type that is not already taken.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using a dedicated server Discord as a voice chat and dice roller, so make sure you have a Discord account. I will also share some atmospheric pictures there. During the games I will also be playing music through Watch2gether. This website does not require you to make an account. Note that using Watch2gether and Discord at the same time on a phone is (to my knowledge) not possible, so you will need to have a computer. Please find a quiet place to play the game, so that we do not hear many background noises, it will help everybody be more engaged in the game. Although I will provide you with a fillable character sheet, I always recommend you to print a physical one for yourself if you can.

What Wojtek brings to the table

My goal for the game is to let players come up with creative solutions that are not written down on their character sheet and to use your own reasoning to solve the mystery presented in each game. Using the system I will also offer you a lot of opportunities to set up your own scenes to roleplay between players. I will also make sure to fill our discord server with art, and portraits of NPC’s that will allow you to feel immersed in the world of the Loop.

Safety

How Wojtek creates a safe table

Note: !!! If you feel that this might be a game for you but one of the listed triggers holds you from playing, please reach out to me, and in most cases I will be able to remove a triggering topic from the campaign entirely. !!! I listed many potential triggers for this game, but I do not expect most of them to come into play. In this system players have the possibility to add many traumatic and/or negative events to their backstory, which could include any of the listed triggers. I cannot predict this ahead of time, so that is why I am mentioning them here, but if you let me know about them I can ensure that they do not arise during character creation and in the campaign. As to the safety tools used: I mostly rely on the X,N and O cards (also known as the traffic light system). The discord server on which we will play everybody will have the option to press on a button that will state: "Red", "Yellow" or "Green" at any time in the game, to avoid any topics you wish not to come up during the games. Also at any moment in the game anybody can call for a 1minute pause. This helps everybody to stay on the same page as to the comfort levels, but also can be used to clarify rules. Everybody will also get a chance to tell me and/or the others what topic they would like to remove from the game during session 0.
