About the adventure

For new and experienced players alike, this 4th level One-Shot is a great intro to D&D and The Forgotten Realms setting or if you're just looking for a solid, classic evening adventure! Deep beneath the small town of Helmsfield, unbeknownst to its inhabitants, lies the world's biggest dragon's lair. This cavernous megadungeon has been growing underground for millennia. Here, the ancient Dragon Queen, Yaverax, lies slumbering, surrounded by the wealth of nations and the treasures of a thousand devoured adventurers. Here, he sinister plans for world domination are hatched. Here, her prized treasures are kept behind numerous arcane and mundane defenses. But maintaining such a place is a lot of work, and every dragon, no matter how ancient, needs minions. This is a story of two kobold tribes: the Redscales and the Bluescales. Their duties include guarding the numerous vaults and hoards, setting traps, rearming traps, feeding the tamed monstrosities, and fighting off the occasional ooze that climbs out of the Bottomless Pit. They are the caretakers of this place. They also hate each other and constantly compete for more power and dominance inside the Lair. The primary cause of their feud is the different color of their scales. To the kobolds, their tribe is the epitome of draconic heritage. To a casual observer, however, both tribes appear vaguely purple. Routine at the Lair was shaken up when the Dragon Queen awoke for the first time in a decade, and without giving any instructions, departed along with her salamander servants. Most of the kobolds are too young to remember the last time this happened, and now, ten days after her departure, various rumors are circulating among the Redscales. Ten days is a long time. Especially for impatient kobolds. Perhaps she's left for good. Perhaps they've been abandoned. Alone with mountains of gold and piles of dangerous magical artifacts. And what if… what if the Bluescales get to them first? (This adventure is the original work of Ivan Atanasov! About me

Hello there! I’m Bret (he/him), your friendly Turtle Wizard and cinematic GM who loves crafting sessions that make players grin, gasp, and want for that next session moments after the previous one is already done! I build character‑driven scenes with memorable moments, sprinkles of rule‑of‑cool surprises, and keep pacing steady so everyone leaves satisfied, not exhausted. My tables are reliable, playful, and a little bit ridiculous (in the best way!). I celebrate player creativity, spotlight character wins, and design beats that land without overwhelming. Think blockbuster moments, thoughtful choices, and a few laugh‑out‑loud bits to keep things light. Flexible scheduling is my love language. Early morning? Oddly specific Thursday at 1:52? I’ll make it work. I run one‑shots, mini‑campaigns (4 - 5 sessions), and full campaigns. If you want cinematic storytelling that’s consistent, fun, and emotionally satisfying, come roll with this turtle wizard and we'll create an adventure worth telling!

What Turtle Wizard brings to the table

What to Expect from My Games: - I respect the rules but believe that Rule of Cool makes stories unforgettable—expect flexibility when it means more fun! - Sessions come alive with immersive ambiance and occasional background music to set the mood. I occasionally add in comedic value through music as well! - I dabble in character voices to add flavor (no judgment—just vibes, not perfection!). - Combat is challenging but never overwhelming, designed to be strategic and engaging without grinding players down. - You’ll occasionally run into puzzles or unusual obstacles—so bring your creativity and a willingness to think outside the box!

Homebrew rules

We have a few but we'll cover those real quick before the session! Nothing too crazy, just some quality-of-life rule updates

Safety

How Turtle Wizard creates a safe table

- Pre-Session Talk (10 minutes before the session start): A pre-game chat to establish expectations, boundaries, and themes. Players will share content they’d like to avoid, clarify tone (serious vs. goofy), and set goals for group playstyle. - Lines and Veils / Safety Tools: "Lines" are hard boundaries, “Veils” are fade-to-black moments. During pre-session talk, we will discuss further lines and veils. The current one(s) that are in place and will not be tolerated: - Sexual violence or assault - Child Harm / Abuse - Racism, Homophobia, Transphobia - Animal Cruelty - Graphic Mutilation - Suicide / Self-Harm - Real-world Politics/Religion - Substance Abuse Veils that may occur but we do not describe in detail - Consenting romantic encounters (fade-to-black) - Torture (Implied) Roleplay is allowed ONLY with the entire groups consent - Player Death (Acknowledged and a real possibility but not dwelled on) - Body Horror (vague descriptions at most) - In the session, we'll use the Green/Yellow/Red system. We will start with an open narrative and make sure that all lines and veils are openly known by all. Past this point, we will be Green for Go. If at in point a player(s) feels that we are heading towards something they find uncomfortable, they may indicate Yellow verbally or via chat that way we know to slow the roll and start leaning away from the topic/event/interaction. If Red is called or written in chat, an immediate stop will occur. The group will be given a break where everyone will be encouraged to step away from the table for a moment, gather themselves and we can calmly and cooperatively address the issue. If the player in question wants to discuss it privately or let me know privately, that is also encouraged in order to remain anonymous and avoid any unpleasant feelings. This is an open and safe space and everyone at this table should be committed to providing that for themselves and each other. - Open Dialogue: Encouraging feedback before or after sessions. I'll ask after each session “Was there anything that didn’t land well?” or “Anything you’d love more or less of next time?” I want to help cater these experiences to everyone who joins this table! - Content Warnings: Quick heads-up about potentially intense scenes. IE: “This session involves body horror or undead themes—nothing super graphic, but let me know if you want to steer clear.” Ties in with lines and veils - Tone Checks: Periodic pauses to ensure everyone’s on board with the vibe. I may ask “Is everyone enjoying themselves?” or “Want to dial it up/down?” especially if the narrative shifts into heavier territory or if we need to dial things down!
