Off The Rails - Intro to Eberron [LGBTQ+ Friendly]

(Current Level: 5) It was a nice relaxing train ride, but things were swiftly... derailed. Was it a simple accident, or something much more nefarious?

About the adventure

After surviving a crash on the Lightning rail, our heroes have uncovered a foul plot to sow chaos in Khorvaire, crafted by various allied factions. This conspiracy is undertaken by the ancient Dhakaani Goblins with their highly advanced tech, The Daughter's Of Sora Kell with their powerful magic, and a third group yet to be uncovered! Work with the Dragonmarked houses and leaders from across the continent to prevent the land from once again being engulfed by war. ------ Hello there, I hope that introduction caught your eye. This campaign will feature quite a bit of sleuthing and mystery, but that's far from all it will have. Dungeon delving, dragon riding, and forbidden knowledge not meant to be grasped by mortals all await you in the continent of Khorvaire. Players both new and experienced are welcome. I am always happy to help people learn how to use the system, and I of course won't turn down somebody already familiar with the system. Even I forget things from time to time. If you don't know anything about Eberron, don't fret! This adventure is one that will open up as it goes on, and as such you'll be starting in the relatively basic human theocracy of Thrane before exploring stranger and more dangerous lands. ------ I don't use AI in any part of my GMing process and generally ask that character references not be AI. I updated the description to reflect the current state of the campaign

About me

I've been GMing for about half a decade at this point, getting started during covid-19 and having such a passion for it that I haven't stopped since. I have ran a call of cthulu campaign to completion and have two long term D&D games going. Both starting at level 1 and now being level 19 and level 20. I am highly dedicated to seeing my games through, never willing to simply walk away and forget them. Once I start a game, I'm in it for the long haul. I've made many great friends this way and have no plans to stop GMing anytime soon.

Character creation

Creating your character

I like to really incorporate the player characters into the world. Through out the campaign nearly every character gets an arc with a large focus on their story. This can mean exploring their background or putting them in a situation that challenges them in a unique way. As such I am heavily involved in the character creation process so I can integrate them into the world as thoroughly as possible. We'll speak plenty one on one as I help you properly shape this idea. Don't worry, I won't go changing any aspect of your character or their story without your permission. If you aren't the sort who likes mapping out their characters entire life up until the game started, that isn't an issue. Even a simple idea such as "halfling druid who loves making berry pies" or "human noble trying to reclaim his honor" can be the base for a great and memorable PC.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an account for Roll20 and optionally DnDBeyond, the free tiers are fine. If you make your player character on DnDBeyond, you will need the Beyond20 website extension so that your rolls will automatically connect to Roll20.

What Skye Snowwalker brings to the table

I believe in rule consistency. That is to say that my interpretations of rules aren't necessarily always going to be RAW, but rather that I am going to enforce those rules near universally through out the campaign. I do allow for the occasional rule of cool, but that is a rare exception. I personally believe that incredible moments hit harder when they're done by the book, as opposed to the DM just shrugging and letting it happen. It means the players truly had to break out their ingenuity. I will always happily hear out any player's arguments against my interpretations of rules, but if afterwards I still hold to my initial interpretation I expect the player to accept that.

Homebrew rules

I don't operate with many sweeping homebrew rules, most that I end up integrating are in response to very specific mechanical interactions between character abilities. Even so, the most notable universal rules are: Potions can be drank as action to receive the full healing, or drank as a bonus action to use the standard roll for heal. Spell scrolls can be used freely by any class. The spells Wall of Force and Force Cage take a minute to cast. When short resting, the party can choose for it take only 10 minutes instead of a full hour. This can be done twice per long rest, and does not accomplish things that explicitly take an hour, such as attunement. (Funnily enough I came up with this rule years before BG3 came out, which has a similar 2 short rest system).

Safety

How Skye Snowwalker creates a safe table

I keep a full open door policy for players to come to me with any issues they have. Alongside that, we will have a session zero where we discuss Lines and Veils. Once agreed upon, these will be fully respected. Additional lines and veils can be added if necessary after discussion. I also try to be respectful in topics that I know can be sore spots for players, without fully being a line or veil. For example, if a player recently lost their house in a fire, I would run certain aspects of a "fire heavy" session by them to make sure they're comfortable with it. (I know there's quite a few warnings, I marked everything I think I might use even a single time in the full campaign.)
