About the adventure

Tales From Al’asïa: A New Adventurer’s Guide to the Wilderness is a series of beginner-friendly one-shots designed to ease new players into the world of Dungeons & Dragons through guided character creation, collaborative storytelling, and low-pressure exploration. Whether you're brand new to the game or returning after a long hiatus, this session is built to welcome and empower you. Each game stands alone, featuring a self-contained adventure set in a different part of Al’asïa, a sprawling, myth-laden world filled with ancient ruins, mysterious relics, and cultures shaped by elemental forces and forgotten histories. From cursed desert villages to mist-shrouded coastlines, no two adventures are the same, and no prior knowledge of the setting is required. Your journey might begin on the edge of civilization, or in the heart of something much stranger. We begin each session with an optional 20–30 minute Character Creation Workshop, walking you through the basics of building a level 1 adventurer using official 2024 rules via D&D Beyond. If you already have a character, you’re welcome to bring them, just note that any unofficial material must be approved in advance. Gameplay blends light rules explanation with engaging challenges. Expect a mix of exploration, simple puzzles, roleplay encounters, and one or two cinematic combat scenes tailored for low-level play. My GMing style focuses on creating space for your creativity to shine, I support Rule of Cool decisions, encourage character-driven moments, and keep the tone fun, flexible, and immersive. These one-shots are designed not just to be entertaining, but to build player confidence. You'll leave the table with a complete adventure under your belt, a new character to grow with, and maybe even a desire to explore more of Al’asïa in future games.

About me

I’ve had a love for games my entire life. From crunchy mechanics to unique artwork, I’ve always been drawn to the way play can deliver both escapist fun and deeper themes. Some of my favorite stories have come from games, where interaction and immersion make the experience unforgettable. I stumbled into TTRPGs through roleplay-heavy board games, and soon after, D&D. Just three sessions in, I realized I was better suited behind the DM screen, crafting worlds, weaving encounters, and shaping stories that players bring to life through their choices. At my table, you can expect immersive storytelling, engaging roleplay, and exciting challenges. New players are welcome, I’ll guide you through the rules as we go, while veterans will find satisfying encounters that reward clever play. Above all, I believe a good story told well is worth living, and I can’t wait to create one together with you, some friends, and a whole lot of dice.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created using official 2024 Dungeons & Dragons rules via D&D Beyond. Players may either build their character before the session or join early for an optional character-building workshop at the beginning of the session (approximately 20–30 minutes). New players are highly encouraged to take advantage of this guided introduction! All characters will begin at Level 1. Stats should be generated using Standard Array (will be explained at the beginning of the session) unless otherwise discussed. Only content from official published D&D 2024 material is permitted; any additional or third-party material must be approved by the GM in advance. You are welcome to bring your own concept, or come with a blank slate and build something together with the table. This is a space to learn, experiment, and enjoy the creative process.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play in this session, you’ll need two free accounts: - A D&D Beyond account to create your character - A Discord account to join the voice chat After booking your seat, you’ll receive personalized links to both the D&D Beyond campaign and the private Discord server. No other software or downloads are required! Everything runs right in your browser or app. If you're unfamiliar with either platform, don’t worry! I’m happy to guide you through setup before the session. If you're new to Dungeons & Dragons, I recommend joining the session on time, as the first 20–30 minutes include an optional Character Creation Workshop. We’ll walk through building a Level 1 character together using the 2024 rules, and you’ll get a chance to ask questions, get inspired, and feel confident before the adventure begins. Already have a character? You're welcome to bring it, but homebrew or unofficial content must be approved in advance. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your session: 🎧 Use headphones to minimize echo and improve audio clarity for everyone. 📝 Have a notepad (physical or digital) nearby for names, clues, or cool ideas. 📱 Keep distractions low. You don’t need to be a professional actor, but a little focus goes a long way. 🎲 No dice needed! D&D Beyond has built-in rollers, or you can roll real dice at your desk. Your call! This game is designed to be welcoming and low-pressure. There are no expectations beyond showing up with a willingness to play and try things out. Whether you're here to slay monsters, roleplay a clueless bard, or just get a feel for how the game flows, you're in the right place.

What Christian Morcillo brings to the table

As your Dungeon Master, my goal is to make sure you can focus on playing and having fun, not juggling rules or software. Here’s what I bring to the table: 🧙‍♂️ I have a D&D Beyond DM account and will be sharing access to official 2024 content, including the Player’s Handbook and more. So even if you don’t own the books, you’ll have everything you need to build and run your character. 🗺️ During the session, I’ll use Foundry Virtual Tabletop (VTT) to present immersive battlemaps, dynamic lighting, and animated effects during combat. But don't worry, the only thing you’ll need open is your character sheet in D&D Beyond and our voice chat in Discord. 🎙️ I create a collaborative and cinematic tone at the table. I’ll handle the rules with a light touch (explaining them as needed, especially for new players) and fully embrace the Rule of Cool as long as it supports the story and feels fair. This is a game about imagination, not perfection. 🎭 Expect a mix of character voices, sound effects, and tactical but accessible combat. You’ll always have room to try creative ideas, explore your character’s personality, or just ask questions along the way. Whether you're here to learn, roleplay, or just roll some dice and have fun, I’ve got the rest covered.

How Christian Morcillo creates a safe table

Creating a welcoming, respectful, and safe space for everyone is a top priority at my table, especially for new players who may be stepping into this hobby for the first time. During the game, we’ll be using X, N, and O "cards" (shared in the Discord chat) as simple shorthand tools to help manage comfort in real time. Players can type or react with these symbols/letters at any time: ❌ X means “please stop this content now” ⚠️ N means “I’m not okay with where this is going” ✅ O means “I’m okay to continue” These tools allow players to check in or signal discomfort quickly and discreetly without needing to interrupt the game. After the session, I’ll offer a short debrief. This is a casual chance to share what you enjoyed, what could be improved, and how the session felt overall. Feedback is welcome but never required. You’re always free to reach out afterward if you prefer to share thoughts privately. Finally, I follow an Open Door policy: any player can step away from the session at any time, for any reason, and take as long a break as needed. There will never be judgment, pressure, or questions asked. Your well-being comes first. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned adventurer, you deserve a space that respects your limits and supports your fun.
