About the adventure
"Somewhere, lost in the shrouded realms of death, lies a land of endless night where long-forgotten horrors are revealed to those who travel through the mist. There, in a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin. He raises crooked arms to a Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight and hears the whispers of the Old Ones. They speak of a beast that stalks the darkest woods and darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you lose your way and feel a warm breath that chills you to the bone, run. Follow the songs of harvest time, and before long, you’ll find revelry in the dancing shadows of blazing wicker. No matter your story, these lonesome, misty rails will deliver you to where the hallowed cannot save you. Now is the time to brave the dark wood, beware the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful folktale underneath the Crooked Moon." You are about to embark upon a journey into the unknown, where uncanny folk with strange superstitions revere the Old Ways, and creatures of folklore lurk on the isolated fringes of civilization.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello, misadventurers! You may recognize me as the former Dungeon Master at the family-friendly d20 Dames podcast. When I'm not running games, I'm a freelance game designer and author at my owner-operated company, Steampunk Unicorn Studio. I've worked for clients such as Hasbro, Larian Studios, Wizards of the Coast, MCDM, Hit Point Press, and Roll & Play Press, and my game credits include: Blood in Baldur’s Gate, Betrayal at House on the Hill 3E, HeroQuest, and Divinity Original Sin the Board Game. In the sphere of TTRPG actual play, I was the Dungeon Master on the family-friendly podcast d20 Dames, and I've played numerous roles, most notably as The Countess on Adventure They Wrote. My latest book, How to Be More D&D (Running Press Books), is an officially licensed publication through Dungeons & Dragons (Wizards of the Coast). I was also a Creative Laureate with the Storytelling Collective in 2022.

Creating your character
Characters can be created beforehand on D&D Beyond in consultation with other players & DM on Discord. Please reach out ahead of the game if you have any questions.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a mic and headset for Discord. Webcam is optional. A beginner level understanding of D&D 5E rules is necessary to play the game but I'm happy to help newer players learn as we go. You will need your character sheet and dice (either physical or virtual depending on your preferences).
What Kat Kruger brings to the table
I will provide access to the full range of character options available on D&D Beyond as well as a private Discord server in which to play the game.

How Kat Kruger creates a safe table
An RPG Consent Checklist will be sent ahead of the first session. Safety tools are discussed before the campaign begins. Generally speaking I do not describe gore in gruesome detail. Most of my games focus on narrative and character development so I will also be including a character questionnaire to better understand your PC and their motivations.
