About the adventure
This is a high RP, high politics campaign set in the fae wild. It's perfect for players who like mystery and political intrigue mixed with magic borne of the land and creatures who trade in half truths. Pick a fae court to belong to, choose your allies, discover your enemies, and prepare to navigate the deceptive and puzzle-filled world of the faerie courts as you and your party attempt to elevate your status, and perhaps save the plane from falling to a greater threat than anyone could have predicted. If you're a lore nerd, note taker, RPer who loves to keep track of multiple plot threads, or puzzle lover, this campaign is for you. I run an inclusive LGBQ+ friendly table. Please only apply if you are happy to accept the preferred pronouns and identities of others. While this game is high on deception and intrigue, I try to foster games where that is not necessarily the case among the PCs. My ideal vibe I'd love to foster is one where the players feel united and able to trust and like each other amidst a world that cannot be trusted. That doesn't mean they can't have secrets, but you should want to speak to your other PCs and engage with the party.

About me
As a DM I strive to make atmospheric and evocative adventures that reward players who think outside of the box. I work as a freelance illustrator, and as a highly visual person imagery and tone play a big part in my games. I create my own art, maps, and custom player character art for my campaigns. Eight years of acting experience combined with a lifelong passion for fantasy writing makes me quick with improv and eager to dive into absurd, creative directions I didn't expect players to go in. I make it my mission as a DM to reward the player's choices and tailor the game to actions they take instead of pushing them along a preordained path. There are set plot points and long-term objectives to my campaigns, but they are always subject to change based on the players goals and decisions. My worlds are heavily homebrewed, and I love tailoring the adventure to the characters' backstories. I am the perfect choice for a player who loves RP! I run an inclusive LGBTQ+ friendly table. Please only apply to play in one of my games if you are willing to respect the pronouns and identities of others.

Creating your character
I go over basics during interviews and send a session 0 doc after that should answer character creation questions. After reviewing house rules via the lore doc I'll be happy to answer any questions from players before character creations and work with them on backstory. I try to integrate backstory into the game, and always love a player who's interested in providing a detailed one! Please pick a fae court (see lore doc) to ally yourself with, and I can send you info that you would know as a result. We will be using mostly standard array, but instead of a 15 for their highest stat players will get a 17 so everyone can start the game being super good at at least one thing. All races are allowed as long as they're cannon 5e from one of the core rule books.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please make sure you have a working microphone and camera. I find that leaving your camera off makes it more difficult for other players to get a read on how someone is reacting and makes role play more difficult. Please have an idea of what your character's personality might be what voice, goals, or other distinguishing characteristics they might have. I'm happy to answer any questions before or during session 0. Ideally we'd talk beforehand and have a vague idea of backstory by the time we meet to go over things. I do not add players until I receive a backstory. Please familiarize yourself with roll20, dnd beyond, and discord. You must have an account for these sites in order to participate in the game. the beyond20 plugin for chrome is useful but optional.
What Maria brings to the table
I'm an illustrator as my day job and will do character art for everyone's PC for the game. I have homemade maps, puzzles, lore, and a RP-heavy GM style with flexible storylines that cater to player initiative and actions. Audio and video via discord. I bring a hefty dose of "yes and" improv, enthusiasm for player creativity, and vivid descriptions. I have a roll20 page set up with a ton of visuals, and a campaign link on dndbeyond that has a decent amount of resources.
Homebrew rules
Standard array but replace the 15 with a 17 Inspiration is a D12 instead of a reroll Potions as a BA, or use your action and regain max health You can switch weapons by using half of your movement. If you desperately need to use a spell but do not have slots available to cast it, you can choose to pull from your own life force to cast it. For every level of the spell, you take a point of exhaustion. Ex. if you needed to cast revivify and had no slots left for it, you could take 3 points of exhaustion and cast it anyway. If you want to cast a lower level spell but are out of low level spell slots, you can upcast the spell and expend a higher spell slot instead even if the spell does not specify it can be cast at higher levels. Each week on Discord I will send everyone a question: What’s your favorite color, who was your first crush, what’s the worst day you ever had at school, etc. You may choose to respond in character (if your character wouldn’t respond you can DM me your answer), and this will become information the other PCs know. The idea is these are things the PCs learned about each other during their down time/around the campfire at night. Everyone who answers receives inspiration that they can start the next session with.

How Maria creates a safe table
I'll be sending a list to new players with lines and veils, as well as a lore doc of the world (it's home brew) with info on house rules and other FAQs. We'll go over character ideas and anything else during session 0 As a general rule, I don't allow evil characters. It just results in too much PvP conflict. We use the X Card system, and we do stars and wishes post game. I have an open door policy. If you need to leave during session or skip a session, no one will be upset with you. Prioritize your real life if something comes up - the group will understand <3
