About the adventure
Tariel’s Tower: Sight Beyond Sight An Adventure of Crystals, Chaos, and Cataclysmic Revelation Step into a world where magic hums beneath the surface of every stone and fate is written not in stars, but in the crystal-laced caverns below. Tariel’s Tower invites brave adventurers to descend into a dangerous subterranean realm on behalf of a brilliant—if slightly erratic—wizard named Tariel Winguarden. He claims to have found the formula for a powerful new spell, one that can peer across time and truth itself. But nothing this potent is ever created without consequence. Set across treacherous mountain passes, ancient forests, and forgotten shrines, this adventure blends mystery, tactical exploration, and high-stakes arcane experimentation. Whether you’re dodging bandit ambushes, decoding ancient runes, or navigating the volatile energies of unstable crystal magic, every choice could echo across the fabric of reality. This is a story for dreamers, puzzle-solvers, and players who love narrative-driven exploration, challenging encounters, and magical escalation. With accessible mechanics and thematic twists tailored to both new and veteran players Will you help forge the future of divination—or be consumed by it?

Creating your character
Character Creation Guidelines Before you dive into the mysteries of Tariel’s tower and the caverns below, please follow these guidelines to ensure your character is ready for the adventure. 📅 When to Create Character creation should be completed before the first session. If you're joining a one-shot or special event version of this adventure, pre-generated characters may also be available. 🧾 Starting Level All players will begin at Level 5 to match the adventure’s tone, threat level, and narrative stakes. 🎲 Stats & Rolling Use Point Buy (27 points) or Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). Alternatively, if your DM permits, you may roll 4d6 drop the lowest for each stat—rerolling ones once—but must keep the results. (Discuss with your DM.) HP at level 1 is maximum, then average or rolled each level (DM’s choice). 📚 Allowed Sources Core Rulebooks: Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. Optional: Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, or One D&D/2024 playtest materials (DM approval required). No homebrew unless specifically approved. 🧰 Starting Gear You begin with standard equipment from your class and background. You may choose to: Take the average gold for your class and purchase gear, OR Select one uncommon magic item thematically appropriate for your character (DM approval required). 🎭 Backstory Tips This adventure is ideal for characters drawn to mystery, arcane forces, lost knowledge, or the pull of fate. Consider: Why would your character answer a call from a famous wizard? What do they fear most in the dark? Have they heard of the Sight Beyond Sight before? ✨ Character Hooks Each player will receive an invitation scroll to Tariel’s Tower. You may decide: Was it sent to you directly? Were you hired, or did you find the scroll after its messenger was ambushed? Or… do you believe fate placed it in your hands?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Preparation How should your players prepare? List out the steps players need to take before they can play in the game. Examples: Are there accounts on websites (Discord, Roll20, Foundry, etc.) they need to make? Are there programs they should have downloaded? Do they need to join a Discord server or VTT server?

Homebrew rules
House Rules for Tariel’s Table A dash of chaos, a pinch of drama, and a heaping scoop of narrative flair. Powerful Criticals When you score a critical hit, maximize the dice for your weapon or spell damage (e.g. 2d6 becomes 12) before rolling the second set. Roll big. Hit harder. Critical Fumbles Natural 1s on attacks come with consequences: You may drop your weapon, hurt an ally, or even yourself. The DM will describe what embarrassing chaos ensues. Potions & Action Economy Drinking a potion yourself takes a Bonus Action. Giving a potion to another creature takes a Full Action. Potion Toxicity Drink more than one potion per hour? Roll on the Potion Toxicity Table. Overindulgence might come with hiccups… or hallucinations. Maximum Potion Healing No more 1s on healing rolls. Healing potions always restore their maximum value (e.g. a 2d4+2 potion heals for 10 HP). Stacking Inspiration Inspiration can stack and be used cumulatively. Roleplaying flaws, bonds, or risky character-driven decisions (especially those with negative consequences) earns more inspiration. Encourage spotlight moments and memorable character actions. Free Passive Checks in Combat You may attempt one basic check per round (Insight, Perception, etc.) as a free action. But multitasking during battle isn’t free: Disadvantage may apply if you're too distracted or rushed. Blind Death Saves Players do not announce their death saving throws aloud. Only the DM knows the result. This adds tension and real fear to unconsciousness.

How Pacts & Polyhedrals - Asmo creates a safe table
How Will I Keep My Players Safe and Comfortable? Your comfort and sense of safety matter—especially in a game about transformation, memory, and identity. This is an all-ages game about self-discovery, and I want it to be a supportive space for exploration and creativity. Session 0: Open Conversation Before we begin play, we’ll have a Session 0 where we: Talk openly about what themes are welcome in the game Clarify what content we want to avoid Make sure everyone feels heard, seen, and respected This is our time to co-create a safe space together. Stars & Wishes (Aftercare) At the end of each session, we’ll share: Stars – things you loved or moments that stood out Wishes – what you’d like to see more/less of, or where you'd like your story to go This helps us grow the story together and check in emotionally in a positive, non-intrusive way. ❌ Simple Safety Tools While we won’t be using formal tools like X/N/O cards during play, you are always welcome to speak up: Verbally, in or out of character Via message in Discord if you’re more comfortable typing Or simply saying “Pause” at any time
