About the adventure

Muppets Murder Mystery – It’s Not Easy Being Green
or Sane It's the Muppet Show, with our special guest, Morgan Freeman! Welcome to a night of felt, fame, and fatality. The Muppet Show is going live once again—complete with musical numbers, outrageous skits, and backstage chaos—but tonight, someone won’t be joining us for the final curtain call. A murder has rocked the set, and the show must go on
but only if the killer is unmasked before the final act! In this one-shot whodunit for Call of Cthulhu (7th Edition), every player will take on the role of a Muppet-style character—chaotic, creative, and absolutely ridiculous. You’ll perform sketches, belt out tunes, and improvise hilariously bad commercials while investigating eldritch evidence and interrogating suspicious puppets. Sanity will slip. Hilarity will not. The horror is real
and so is the jazz hands. This game is perfect for theater kids (current or retired), improv lovers, musical maniacs, and chaos gremlins who want to mix cosmic horror with slapstick mayhem. No prior experience with Call of Cthulhu is necessary—new players are welcome and encouraged! Just bring your imagination, your best Muppet voice, and a sock to use as your puppet on-screen. It’s time to raise the curtain
 on murder.

About me

"Never let truth get in the way of a good story." I love fun. And roleplaying games. And pie. And horror! I'm a professional DM, TV producer, artist & writer in my regular career. The one thing I do well is storytelling in all its forms. I love horror & using it as a tool for creating fun. I'm a disabled vet and a professional storyteller for TV shows (Producer). Roll20 and Discord are my favorite replacements for in-person gaming. I live on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, so that makes in person gaming impossible these days, so I invested a ton in improving my Virtual DM game & excel at it. I am one of the best Professional DMs you will ever encounter. I live in the Azores, Portugal on Sao Miguel island. It's the Hawaii of Europe and an awesome place to live. I reside here with my family, chickens, dogs and cats.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

How Should Your Players Prepare? To make sure the felt flies smoothly, here’s how to get stage-ready before showtime: Create a Roll20 Account Players will need a free Roll20.net account. All gameplay will happen via Roll20, including character sheets, dice rolls, and scene visuals. Join the Discord Server (Optional but Encouraged) A private Discord link will be shared before the game for voice chat, out-of-character banter, and backstage shenanigans. No download needed if you use it in-browser, but having the app is smoother. Bring a Sock Puppet or Silly Prop Optional but highly encouraged: bring a sock puppet or Muppet-y item to use on camera! We're leaning into chaos and creativity, and it adds a lot to the fun. Microphone Required, Camera Encouraged A working mic is required. A webcam is optional but makes the show feel more live and interactive—especially for singing or skits. No Rules Knowledge Needed You don’t need to know Call of Cthulhu rules to play. I’ll teach everything as we go. Just bring your sense of humor and inner theater kid. Log On 10 Minutes Early We’ll do a quick tech check and settle into our characters. That way, the show can start on time!

What Sad Potato brings to the table

What Will I Provide My Players? I provide a fully immersive and ridiculous Muppet-themed Call of Cthulhu experience that combines comedy, chaos, and just a touch of cosmic dread. Players will have access to the Call of Cthulhu 7E Core Rulebook through Roll20, and I’ll guide everyone—new or veteran—through character creation and gameplay step-by-step. Expect the unexpected: 🎭 Character Voices Galore – I’ll be performing in a range of silly Muppet voices (bad impressions included) and I encourage you to do the same. đŸŽ¶ Sound Effects & Ambient Music – The Muppet Show soundtrack, backstage chaos, and eerie ambiance will set the mood as we swing from sketch comedy to sanity-shattering horror. 📜 Handouts, Clues, and Visuals – You’ll receive in-game handouts, notes, and visual props to investigate and interact with. đŸŽČ Rule of Cool with Puppet Strings Attached – I stick to the rules where they matter (sanity, clue hunting, consequence), but I love rewarding creativity, improvisation, and Muppet-style absurdity. Got a musical number that explains your theory? Roll for it. This game blends performance and play, so bring your flair for drama, your inner felt chaos gremlin, and your weirdest investigative ideas. Whether you're here for the eldritch horror or the rubber chicken, you're in the right place.

Safety

How Sad Potato creates a safe table

How Will I Keep Players Safe and Comfortable? Player safety and comfort come first—no matter how chaotic the comedy or how weird the horror gets. This is a space for joy, laughter, and spooky storytelling, and I work to make sure everyone feels welcome and respected at the table. Here’s how I keep the felt-friendly and the vibes good: đŸ§” Lines & Veils Document Provided Before game day, I’ll send a quick and easy Lines & Veils form for players to anonymously mark what themes are off-limits or should fade to black. This helps everyone feel safe from the start. 🎭 Session 0 Included We’ll begin with a 10–15 minute Session 0 where we go over game tone, safety tools, character concepts, and group expectations. It’s short, clear, and leaves room for questions or adjustments. 🛑 X, N, and O Cards – Digital & Verbal We'll use digital signals (typed in chat or said aloud) for consent and comfort at the table: X – "Stop immediately, I’m uncomfortable." N – "This is heading toward something I’m not okay with." O – "I’m good, let’s continue." 🌈 Aftercare Check-In Once the mystery wraps up, we’ll have a brief cool-down and check-in to debrief, share highlights, and make sure everyone leaves in a good headspace—especially since this game mixes horror and humor. Whether you’re a first-time player or a veteran chaos goblin, your well-being matters. We’re here to laugh, get spooky, and put on a heck of a show—together.
